Relatively new employee here but the culture in the office is great!

Everyone is super nice! Higher ups are all very accessible and easy to talk to. Very flexible hybrid schedule.
Cons
Not the best PTO offerings

Pros
Working remote and great staff.
Cons
The company is always talking about career development within the company but there is no career advancement within the Billing department. There are people within the department with knowledge in other aspects but MG would hire externally rather than promoting someone internally. That would mean a pay raise and their budget would not allow that. Billing is one of the smaller departments in the company and it tends to be overlooked. Management always talks about having a great work life balance but they would overwork their senior staff rather than training more people to help in other queues when needed. Billing has been having monthly meetings with the CFO for almost a year regarding all the problems we're facing but nothing is getting done for the department. It has always been the same excuses over and over again and it has become pointless and a waste of time. The company is always working on other projects to help productivity and lessen the workload for other departments but something always tends to break leaving Billing with more responsibilities and problems to clean up.

Be aware of reviews and time with the company
May 9, 2023 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Remote and flexible opportunities based on department.
Cons
This company pressures employees to write good reviews within the first month or so - take note of when reviews are posted and how long the employee has been with the company!! Departments vary greatly as to how they are managed, but the company benefits and pay overall are not good. The current health insurance is horrible.

Pros
This is a great place to work and an amazing opportunity to be a part of a market leading team that is mission driven. In my time here I have been well supported by management and well informed about business decisions and trends. There is a level of transparency and collaboration that is unparalleled. This is truly meaningful work and a company filled with people who are focused on driving positive results and having fun along the way!

A hot mess wrapped in nice packaging
Apr 21, 2023 - Billing Specialist in Philadelphia, PARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Full work from home options are available for certain positions, and my direct management and team are dedicated and work harder then anyone I’ve ever seen. PTO is given in full at the start of the year instead of being accrued over time. Everyone I’ve interacted with has been professional and respectful to their fellow coworkers.
Cons
From the outside the strong focus on company culture draws people in, and it was what drew me to MG initially. However, as time goes by it’s becoming more and more clear that the culture is a distraction, to placate people to the glaring and persistent issues at Medical Guardian that have been going on for years. The stellar reviews listed online drew me in as well, but they are also a mask for the issues within the company — the company has made a habit of asking new hires to write good reviews before their ‘honeymoon phase’ with MG is over. From the day I started communication between departments is abysmal. Through no fault of their own different departments will be on different pages regarding internal procedures only to discover that’s the case months or years later. It’s very often that we will hear of a new product or feature for the first time a week before launch when other departments are already being trained on it. These issues existed well before the pandemic and remote work began, even when everyone was in one office space. Internal project management is also an issue — much more often then not a project’s release date will be pushed back more then once and, in the case of internal process automation efforts, there is no guarantee those systems will work once they do launch. As long as it’s possible for a department to work around them systems and tech issues aren’t addressed with any sense of urgency, no matter what hoops need to be jumped through. The benefits package is completely average for a company of this size in both the type and quality of benefits. The healthcare plan is extremely difficult to navigate, has a very small list of ‘in network’ providers outside of PA for remote workers, and is expensive. Annual raises are standard, however they’re purely merit based within an extremely narrow set range. There isn’t any kind of cost of living raise or annual bonus — MG offers nothing to address the current cost of living crisis. For the second year in a row MG has grossly failed to meet inflation, which means the raises have actually been pay cuts, despite the self professed record growth. High performance and effort isn’t rewarded in any meaningful way, the high performance just becomes the new status quo. Advancement opportunities of any kind, let alone into higher pay scales, do not currently exist in any capacity within the department. A plan has been proposed to create them but once again the company has dragged their feet for months. If an employee does want to advance their only option currently is to transfer to another department with a completely different set of job duties and skill requirements. Currently there seems to be an ongoing shift to a more cold, corporate way of doing things as the company grows, which the CEO is fully within their right to do. If that is the goal I would put forth that that is not what many of us signed up for and it’s entirely antithetical to the reportedly caring, person focused culture that MG has prided itself on in the past. It’s not at all the kind of company that employees who have been here for ten years or more talk about dedicating themselves to. It feels as if they were grandfathered in to a version of the company that cares for its employees lives and well-being as people, pays them a fair living wage, and cares about them feeling truly heard and respected for their hard work. I am very happy they got to experience that version of MG, but from what I’ve seen that no longer exists.

Don’t waste your time long-term.
Mar 31, 2023 - Billing Specialist in Philadelphia, PARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Flexible hours, work from home option.
Cons
First and foremost this company does not care about their employees whatsoever. Our Medical insurance is trash (and getting worse every year). The goal of each MG 23 is to make Geoff and investors more money. Please do not waste your time with this company if you are looking for a place to grow, this company will happily take your hard work and hand you back an ”atta boy” as opposed to any sort of increase in pay.
