    Pros

Medidata is a fast paced, fast growing tech company. There are many opportunities for advancement and change. If you ware willing to self-motivate and tackle hard problems with grace, there is success awaiting you at Medidata. I've been a customer and an employee and I love Medidata from both perspectives.

    Cons

"Work hard, play hard" - it can be too easy to only work hard and forget to take care of your work/life balance. Medidata fully supports a good balance, but it's easy to individually lose track of that.

    Advice to Management

Communicate, motivate, and continue to be passionate!

    Pros

    - Good offices
    - Work from home
    - unlimited PTO

    Cons

    - always changing directions
    - lack of focus
    - lack of career development
    - HR obstructionists

    Advice to Management

Empower your employees to be more candid, earlier. People are afraid to tell the truth about failures.

    Pros

    Some interesting benefits
    Nice and roomy office
Pool table ready to use (as long as you don't do it often)

    Cons

Old technology and not planning to change
Poor management decisions preventing the comapny to grow
Violates most of the fundamental Agile principles giving you the notion obsolete methodologies are being used
Meaningless promotions that lead to incompetent people managing more capable and skilled people
Poor communication between teams where you never know who to trust and who can actually help you
You are not protected by anyone and you can easily be fired without having the possibility to defend yourself
Plenty of unqualified people not giving you a chance to learn from anyone
Everything is made to meet short term needs, this goes from promises to decisions

    Pros

Not a lot of pros, really.

    Cons

The benefits are not exactly what they tell you, e.g. the bonus is never 10%.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with the people you hire.

    Pros

    - Founded on good principles.
    - Not big enough yet so you are not just a number.
    - Uses interesting technology and likes to embrace new industry trends and standards.
    - Excellent agile principles (almost)
    - Product is part of a global good enterprise, which is healthcare.
    - Opportunity to grow if you are up to it and the price it will cost.
    - Global culture and likelihood of traveling.
    - Good benefits.
    - Nice activities every quarter.
    - Opportunity to attend seminars and events even outside your local office's country.
    - Nice intra company activities like poker nights.
    - Lots and lots of free food and treats.

    Cons

    - Too many managers.
    - The company knows where it wants to be but in terms of technology and overall architecture it doesn't really know what they are doing. They improvise and react too much rather than consolidate knowledge.
    - Things are way too secretive.
    - Communication is not clear in a healthy way at any level.
    - Poor decisions regarding legacy applications which translates into frustration and lack of motivation for engineers.
    - Promotes an environment for incompetent people to climb up the corporate ladder. This creates a negative feedback loop effect where new ambitious employees cover up for older incompetent ones, effectively shielding the real problems from outside departments/locations. On the other hand if you are more concerned about long term career growth than actual valued work this place is a good fit.
    - People are mostly promoted for political reasons or by merits when their interests align more closely with those of their direct manager.
    - People from different departments don't talk to each other effectively. Too much confusion over decisions.
    - This company has a very powerful legal muscle which can get you "legally" fired without giving you a chance for a real due process. If you are someone who doesn't like to compromise your principles, beware, This has actually happened more than once.
    - Too many project managers who inadvertently obstruct the agile process. Mostly manager's fault I think.
    - Some managers are not at all qualified to manage which provokes some teams to be micro-managed and with low morale. Fortunately there are other teams with good managers. It's a matter of luck.

    Advice to Management

Try to shift the balance of the time you think about yourselves and your career more towards the time you actually spend doing things that build healthy teams, good communication and happy customers.
    - Keep up promises and expectations and provide honest communication without messages between the lines.
    - For those managers who actually know how to manage, please try not to leave and coach the good engineers you still have left.

I worked at Medidata Solutions (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work from home flexibility and good compensation.
401K and benefits were good. Company parties were awesome.

    Cons

Overload of work. Executives and management lack people and leadership skills specially in professional services. For customer facing jobs emphasis is given only to customer feedback and other side of the story is not heard.

I worked at Medidata Solutions (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked with many good and smart people. I did a lot of traveling but my manager made sure to give me time at home in between trips.

    Cons

The company went thru strong growth during my years and there was a bit of growing pains. Some perks were department by department rather than company wide policy.

I have been working at Medidata Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Pleasant and well furnished office environment with modern amenities
    - Cleaning staff and schedule at offices excellent, offices are very sanitary

    Cons

    - There is general management and leadership vacuum and overall culture of arrogance and incompetence which results in below negative factors
    - Questionable to still have the founders to be as involved as they are in the company at this point in time however it would make sense if this is a vessel that exists primarily fuel wealth and ego
    - Staff continuous given unreasonable tasks and ridiculous projects with impossible timelines mean diligant employees incredibly overworked in terms of hours and projects with no sense of accomplishment
    - Ironically, there also seem to be a large number of employees with little or nothing to do which results in a very unfair work distribution
    - Benefits adequate, but don’t seem good if you come from a larger organization. I find do pay much more out of pocket for health costs now as many things are not covered even though I do had UHC PPO option at my former employer and have UHC PPO option here - clear that Medidata has low end package
    - President has final say on everything and is involved with very low level decision making. He is pathological micromanager who can't keep hands out of low level day to day tasks including coding.
    - Questionable moral standards include misrepresentation during hiring process and constant misstatements by upper management like status of projects, budget spend, sales activities
    - Disturbingly high staff turnover with no acknowledgement - constant and sudden disappearances of staff including top executives with no communication - high turnover is cause for so frequent job postings by company
    - General immoral business decisions and behavior (particularly in Marketing and HR)
    - Company proclaims twice annual holiday parties as employee "benefit" - when these "Parties" take place outside of office hours, and non Medidata guests like spouses are not invited, they more like a gross misallocation of resources and a piling on of additional work hour requirements to already overwhelmed and overworked staff -- not benefit at all.

    Advice to Management

I worked at Medidata Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice workspace with showers and a good great room. Mostly good people. Benefits were decent. Really fun parties every few weeks or so.

    Cons

There are good projects and awful ones. Pay was less than other places in NYC. There are better benefits offered, elsewhere. The company is going through a large management shift. Unlimited PTO really has to be earned and it doesn't really exist on most teams. Most directors won't give you more than 3-4 weeks. You can work from home, but that some how has to be earned as well. High expectations lead you to learn fast, but you may also end up working longer than you ever expected.

    Advice to Management

Follow up with your directors more often. Some of the employees are starting to get more unhappy. Too many open positions and high turn around will begin to hurt the company.
