I worked at Meditech full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company is willing to invest in you if you have the potential to be a good programmer but lack experience or a computer science degree. They've got a system for educating you to make you productive and teach you their languages and this is something they've perfected. Good perks and benefits, this is a place you can work at for life, very hard to get fired. Good at keeping work manageable to 40-hour weeks. The people I've seen happiest at the company are those that do a great job during those hours but take advantage of the relatively easy pace to explore hobbies or interests outside of work.

    Cons

Everything in done in-house, which always feels like they're trying to catch up to industry standards though it feels like they are working to change that. Low starting pay, pay advancements mostly on seniority. A lot of older code and languages are poorly documented, but you can find a lot of stuff if you search their intranet. All proprietary languages, there are some companies that hire people with MEDITECH languages but not a lot.

    Advice to Management

You've got a very unique company philosophy that works for you, I can't say I know enough about hiring policies to know if paying programmers more for better talent is something you can compete in even though that's a common complaint for reviews here.

Recognize staff's work with generous salary increases since base pay is pretty low.

    I worked at Meditech full-time

    Pros

Good work life balance and benefits. Have a very nice work from home policy (up to 2 days a week). I was fortunate enough to have an excellent supervisor who actually cared about my career. Not a ton of stress within application support as the work never comes home with you.

    Cons

Company needs a major overhaul. The system looks outdated, the management tends to be those who stuck around the longest, and the QA work done by development is flat out awful. I genuinely wanted to try and grow my career here but the low pay made it impossible. Meditech greatly needs to improve the quality of its product, their hiring process (open up supervisor and management positions to those outside the company), and pay those who actually put in the work. You encounter way to many employees who simply do the bare minimum.

    Advice to Management

Open up supervisor and management positions to people outside the company to bring in better talent. Need to increase pay of those who actually put in the work. Meditech is losing a lot of its best young employees to companies who are willing to pay a competitive salary and offer better career growth.

    Pros

    work-life balance
    great culture
    opportunity to travel
    you'll make friends for life
    great job security
    awesome healthcare benefits

    Cons

pay is very low for industry standards
management takes forever to promote people
lots of dead wood hanging around - they don't tend to fire people

    Advice to Management

Fire the useless people, and significantly increase pay for those with good performance reviews. You've lost every single good employee I knew that worked there.

I have been working at Meditech full-time

    Pros

friendly coworker, beautiful environment, good balance between work and personal live, very flexible with hours and also working from home

    Cons

The pay is below the industry standard, not a lot of room to move up in the company.

    Advice to Management

Reward those who work hard with raises and benefits and let people go who under perform. add staff for demonstrations, implementation, get the products out at a faster pace; add a 401K program,

    Pros

Intro to the software business nothing more nothing less. Bunch of drones with no real autonomy to make any meaningful decisions or opportunities for growth based on merit.

    Cons

Same as pros...playing catch up with industry giants Epic and Cerner...good luck.

    Advice to Management

    Retire.

    Pros

Depending on your management structure there is a lot of Flexibility. A huge opportunity to learn, annual bonus and great benefits

    Cons

Extensive travel in the implementation role. High turnover rates. Pay is lower than industry average because this is typically an entry level role.

    Advice to Management

Personally, I do not have advice to my management team. My experience with management has been very positive.
