    Pros

    Excellent experience opportunities for recent college grads. MEDITECH can open a lot of doors that weren't even there before. Company sponsored travel gives the opportunity to see much of the country, including both out of the way and urban areas. Typically, direct coworkers are of the same age group leading to a lot of comradery between peers. Benefits were awesome including health and dental and annual company wide bonuses (which admitted faltered in my later years there)

    Cons

    Industry low salaries. Often expected to work long hours with no extra compensation. Very little room for advancement. Favoritism and tenure based promotions rather than merit. Ver

    Advice to Management

    Value your employees, compensate them fairly, and maybe they'll stay more than 2-3 years.

    Pros

    Great coworkers and environment for a first job. Opportunities galore if willing to put in the work and learn the software. Teaches importance of knowing who can help with what/what you can help with. Meet tons of future coworkers and resources during projects across country.

    Cons

    Leadership is too far removed from normal work. Difficult work/life balance with travel exceeding 75% for 8-9 months of year. Failure from company to recognize importance of balance and place emphasis on "their" success.

    Advice to Management

    Group did not see changes in policy until approximately 80% of group quit due to dissatisfaction. Broken pay structure means that junior hired employees (2-5 years) can see new employees making equal/more pay upon hiring. Hollow promises of leadership opportunities to keep employees around a little longer.

    Pros

    > MEDITECH is a great way to gain experience quickly. Since we are understaffed, a lot of opportunities arise that normally wouldn't. For example, as a service specialist, you may be able to go on site implementation visits as well as implement sites on your own.
    > In Minnesota, we specialize in multiple product lines which teaches us how to be versatile.
    > The Minnesota building is smaller and we work mostly within our building in the service department. This means that we tend to know each other well.
    > The open office environment helps us interact with each other (i.e. open office is having low cubicles so that you can see your coworkers and ask questions easier. The drawback is less privacy).
    > Opportunities are available for engagement outside your own role. There is an internal marketing program where employees get to watch quarterly updates on MEDITECH's marketing strategy. There is a Wellness Works program that promotes exercise and gives employees the opportunity to share their exercise and diet experience through presentations. There is an Art Liaison program where employees get to hold staff art show events.
    > The experience that you gain at MEDITECH regarding customer service is invaluable. You learn how to have a thick skin and how to deal with customers in the most gracious and efficient manner.
    > Benefits are great with people who have families. We have very good health insurance coverage, vacation benefits, sick time, and okay tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

    > One can accumulate work quickly due to understaffing. You may be asked to help with tasks that you did not sign up for when you started working. For example, when the clinical software department has trouble, a billing software specialist may need to step in to cover even though they have little knowledge about the clinical software.
    > There are not very good raises at MEDITECH and employees need to wait a long time to get promoted.
    > The benefits are not appealing to young people who generally do not need to go to the doctor as often as someone who is older or has children. Young people often leave the company because they want more disposable income.
    > MEDITECH pays under market value for this position.
    > It is easy for employees to become complacent and not work very hard due to lack of incentives in both financial and professional. It is also difficult to get fired from this position which further causes issues with motivation.
    > MEDITECH never sunsets a product which causes a lot more work and thus more error for people that need to support 4 different complex systems.

    Advice to Management

    Take more risks with hiring. Invest more in your employees so that customers get better service more frequently. If you choose not to sunset a product, hire employees to support the old products instead of putting the least amount of resources in those products. If you don't want customers on the product, then sunset the product. Provide employees with more incentive to work and succeed. Listen to what they need to say but keep it confidential. Enforce rules better so that employees do not feel they can get away with cutting corners.

    -Hires entry level
    -Annual bonuses for all staff
    -Family friendly
    -Amazing health insurance
    -Returning to its place as an industry leader

    -Stock has not been sold for several years
    -"The Good Get Out"
    -Below industry average pay scales
    -Poor management staff development
    -Compensation is rarely tied clearly to performance

    Advice to Management

    Employees stay and remain productive at companies where their contributions are recognized and rewarded and where they feel that they are part of a larger mission as well as where they feel they have a clear path to advancement. MEDITECH struggles to recognize and reward staff based on their value and contribution to the company.

    Pros

    The company is willing to invest in you if you have the potential to be a good programmer but lack experience or a computer science degree. They've got a system for educating you to make you productive and teach you their languages and this is something they've perfected. Good perks and benefits, this is a place you can work at for life, very hard to get fired. Good at keeping work manageable to 40-hour weeks. The people I've seen happiest at the company are those that do a great job during those hours but take advantage of the relatively easy pace to explore hobbies or interests outside of work.

    Cons

    Everything in done in-house, which always feels like they're trying to catch up to industry standards though it feels like they are working to change that. Low starting pay, pay advancements mostly on seniority. A lot of older code and languages are poorly documented, but you can find a lot of stuff if you search their intranet. All proprietary languages, there are some companies that hire people with MEDITECH languages but not a lot.

    Advice to Management

    You've got a very unique company philosophy that works for you, I can't say I know enough about hiring policies to know if paying programmers more for better talent is something you can compete in even though that's a common complaint for reviews here.

    Pros

    Good company, good people. Health/Dental benefits are really good/$ & bonuses increase each year employed. They only hire entry level to start so you will never have someone just hired in a position above you. This is because knowledge of the software applications, technology within/getting a good handle on the system, processes and job itself takes a lot of working experience and training with the system. Approximately 3 years to be good and also after that point (3years) you will have the ability to work from home once or twice a week. Good work space environment. Free fountain soda, water and coffee all day. Cafeteria serving breakfast and lunch, food good.

    Cons

    The workload can be a lot and some supervisors seem more focused on the quantity of work/tasks completed rather than the quality of the work and time you take to help your clients. The issues handled pertaining to Healthcare overall, requirements and learning the software system can be very complex. Its not an easy job. It takes a certain kind of person and intelligence. The salary should be more. They don't all value long time, knowledgeable, hard working employees as much as they should. They don't do much to keep these valuable employees, so they continue to hire new entry-level staff and the hospitals/clients suffer for this. Turnover can be high because people leave to make more money doing the same type of work elsewhere. It seems they try to push some employees to quit. I knew of many long time employees including myself, that did not get raises multiple years and minor issues evaluated or the budget were excuses for it. Though certain supervisors still made sure to give themselves raises out of the budget provided..

    Advice to Management

    Keeping long time knowledgeable and skilled employees should be top priority. This, instead of hiring new for less pay. These decisions and ignorance really effect quality of service provided to the clients and employee satisfaction.

    Opportunity to launch a great career In medical software or implementation project management. Great opportunity for Travel. Great process for reimbursement for Travel. Very good insurance and bonus structure.

    Cons

    The base pay is low, the bonus can make up for it if you can stick it out for the first few years.
