I worked at Meditech full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly atmosphere, everyone wants to help work toward the same goals.

Very professional attitude sets high standards for products.

Great opportunities and recruiting for non-tech degrees with a fairly comprehensive onboarding process and hands-on training.

    Cons

Low-level management is supportive and often responsive, but anyone higher than a supervisor will be increasingly obtuse about workplace or workload problems.

Frustrating fluctuation between slow and very busy workloads.

Pay increases don't keep strong employees at the company very long.

    Advice to Management

Prioritize keeping strong employees over constant distraction from hiring and co-training.

    Pros

Very stable (no layoffs, many long term employees), relatively low stress, good insurance benefits, travel for some jobs, all jobs are internal hires so management advancement is possible

    Cons

Relatively low salary for technical positions, strange retirement benefit (no 401k, a profit sharing plan), highly specialized

I have been working at Meditech full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very flexible schedules, a lot of freedom, company is very generous to employees, job security, opportunities to travel

    Cons

Managers/supervisors are different in every group. Some are more strict and some are very very lax. Some of the examples that leaders set are not good for their staff.

Company is kind of stuck in its ways and doesn't really consider new ideas or approaches

    Advice to Management

Maybe try to set standards for all groups so that expectations are clear and everyone is being held accountable for their behavior and professionalism

I have been working at Meditech full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

MEDITECH is a pretty good company. Very long term focused and privately owned. Overall benefits are good. Health and dental is excellent.

    Cons

I disagree with a lot of decisions at the executive level regarding how MEDITECH develops products, hires and supports staff in their day to day jobs.

    Advice to Management

Request feedback from your employees on how they think the company could improve in specific areas of development tools, hiring practices and staff development.

    Pros

They were very good about showing me the ropes and getting me involved with a team. Not too over barring, and everyone there was very friendly

    Cons

A lot of self guidance and self promotion is necessary, I had to seek out work and explanations on exactly what was needed at the moment

I have been working at Meditech full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Patient, well-handled training, as all jobs are entry-level. This also means everyone in management at one point started at the bottom. Benefits are generous, and geared toward keeping employees for a long time. Have not, in 40+ years, laid anyone off. There is a downside to this, however (see below).

    Cons

Pay is not especially generous, and is lower than the market rate (in MA this can be a huge deal-breaker). This does not necessarily improve with time, depending on how you intend to move up through the ranks (assuming they become available -- flexibility helps here). Because the company does not lay people off -- which is a good thing on the whole -- there are some people here and there who do not pull their own weight and yet remain. People do get fired, but some people are masters of treading water. These people will become fairly frustrating to anyone who wishes to actually work. In addition, as senior staff becomes frustrated with any given scenario, they tend to leave for higher paying jobs, leaving the bad folks behind. This can cripple groups, and is bad for the company at large.

    Advice to Management

Value the senior staff, especially at the lower levels. In order to get anything done, you will need people to actually do it.

I have been working at Meditech full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Very flexible, great benefits, great team, promotes from within

    Cons

pay is not great, could take many years to be promoted

    Advice to Management

Recognize staff's work with generous salary increases since base pay is pretty low.

    Pros

Solid training program, lots of responsibility early on in career, generally great coworkers, good work/life balance, travel opporunities

    Cons

Low pay initially, lots of bureaucracy, takes a while for many of the benefits to kick in, value seniority over talent
