I have been working at Meditech full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone is very friendly, great new hire programs, good for new college grads.... new pay increase for entry level is also nice.

    Cons

Each group within the company seems to have slightly different rules based on what management team you're under, or if you are in a busier, more clinical group. i.e. Longer lunch breaks, working from home before 2 years, etc

    Advice to Management

Make rules and policies more universal

    Pros

Exec's are always looking long term to stabilize the company and prevent lay-offs, Stock value still strong, no debt, own all real estate, great benefits

    Cons

We still act like a small company at times.

I have been working at Meditech full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

This is a great company for anyone looking for a long term career. It is in an industry that is going through a lot of change which makes it exciting to work at. The overall attitude of the company is very comfortable.

    Cons

The salary is not as high as at comparable companies but this can be made up for in the overall benefits and career security.

    Advice to Management

I would advise to hire more development resources in order to get the software turned around more quickly. If you deal with customers sometimes the timelines on product changes can be very frustrating.

I have been working at Meditech full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Never had a layoff. Extremely dependable job security. Beautiful buildings with in-building cafes for cheap meals. Family friendly, social work environment. Working from home 1-2 days a week after a few years experience. Cash holiday bonus yearly since the companies opening capping at 20k (if you work here for life you hit the cap). Meaningful work! You can go home and rest easy at the end of the day having helped provide better care for hospital staff, so that they can in turn help take better care of patients.

    Cons

The starting salary for programmers is below the standard, but there are other perks that they do a bad job illustrating up front (Bonus, on-call money, working from home capabilities, very clear path for growth, flexible hours/shifts/positions - Can transfer roles after two years, no questions asked).

The company itself has microcosms within it that are less desirable than the norm. (I imagine this is like any other company however)

    Advice to Management

Recognize indispensable staff before losing them. I've seen too many incredible employees leave because we can't offer them a salary more reasonable to their abilities. Don't be afraid to take a two year specialist supervisor and give them 10k come raise time, or do the same for a programmer showing aptitude in and out of the In-House coding standards. This is how we will maintain relevance, improving our own software through external tools and experience. If we are going to start people out low, it's time to let go of this antiquated raise system and be able to bump people up in a big way when we want them to stay for the long run.

    Pros

Nice people. Great benefits. The company outing in the summer is awesome. Seems easy to move up and excel.

    Cons

Have you be your own person. People will not find ways to improve you and do not care about you unless you speak up.

  10. "Great company; migrating towards cloud-based applications"

I have been working at Meditech full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Training was very good; a general application-wide training, as well as your own group's training was provided. They ensure that you are well qualified to implement the software prior to going out on your own.

    Cons

Salary is below industry standards, roughly by -$20,000; but the work culture is ideal, very laid back (jean Fridays for instance), and you are allowed quite a bit of independence and self-management.

    Advice to Management

Continue to push towards the Cloud, where the future of EHR IT is going, and also consider paying those who stay in the company higher compensation sooner, than the "longer you stay here, the more you will make" theory. This is old-school thought.

  11. "Hard to find a company like this any more"

I have been working at Meditech full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Job security - they have never laid off an employee, in over 40 years of doing business as a software company. That's a big deal.
90% paid benefits - Better than most other options out there, they pay 90% of your benefits, so you're not losing a lot in your check for that.
Management understands what it's like to do your job - even the CEO of the company started out, in the company, as a programmer. Upper management all understands what it's like to be on the front lines of this company, because they've been there. That helps in putting things in perspective.
Excellent employees get big raises quickly - if you work hard, show aptitude, and succeed, between salary raises and the bonus (see below), you could double your income inside of five years with the company.
Yearly bonus - An annual bonus based on the performance of the company is given out, based on a percentage of your last five years' salary. This has even happened during the economic crisis.
Ability to buy well-performing stock in a solid company - after a few years with the company, you get the option to buy stock. This stock has historically performed exceedingly well.
Great work/life balance - supervisors and managers understand that employees have lives outside of work. This does not mean that you'll never be asked to work overtime - but it is something that they try to avoid unless necessary.

    Cons

Low starting salary - you get hired entry level, you get paid entry level.
Takes time for title advancement - some companies will give you a 'senior' title after a couple of years. This takes a longer time, and some actual achievement, to earn at Meditech.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, and maintain focus on remaining competitive in the market.
