I worked at Medstar Medical Transport full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great place to work! Management will treat you like family and recognizes hard work and sacrifices employees make for the company. Very professional environment, as hospitals, doctor offices and skilled nursing facilities are an integral part of the job. Absolutely love the company nd the work it performs

    Cons

It's largely up to ambulance drivers to keep their vehicles clean and maintain a clean company image. Unfortunately, not all drivers are on the same level, and we have occassionaly had to deal short complaints on that end. However, most people that don't take pride in their job are usually weeded out pretty quickly

    Advice to Management

Make sure employees maintain the image standard that you created and expect. Complacency is a killer

    Cons

trim timeclock hours for employees. force them to take unpaid breaks when it is slow, then call them to work in five minutes when are needed. Poor maintenance of equipment, promise bonus structure then deductions made without informing employee

    Advice to Management

pay more attention to your employees, they are your best advertisement. Need better pay, better appreciation.

I worked at Medstar Medical Transport full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Working by yourself. Taking care of people and seeing new places.

    Cons

The pay isn't as good as this company makes you believe. There is low moral and hires anyone with a pulse which is horrible for patient care. There is no privacy. If any employee has an issue everyone will know about it. And I mean everyone.

    Advice to Management

Stop being abusive and treat your employees with dignity and respect. Have a better hiring system. Or at the very least, stop hiring unprofessional people that dont care about the companys' image and most importantly patient safety.

I worked at Medstar Medical Transport full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Work on your own for the most part

    Cons

Exposure to Hep A B c and HIV amongst others

    Advice to Management

Stop recruiting workers under the false impression of commission and bonuses. Stop requiring them to work 12-15 hours a day and not know when they can leave. Stop making your dispatch staff clock out and do work on their time at home. (illegal btw) Fix your vans. STOP texting and driving!

I worked at Medstar Medical Transport full-time

    Pros

Always busy and plenty of OT available

    Cons

Employees are overworked and underpaid, constantly told they are expendable and any suggestions to improve work conditions are ignored. Call takers are not allowed to refuse a run, even if there is no possible way to make it work in the time given, and drivers are given more runs then they can possibly make, then yelled at by both the customer and the boss for being late.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like people. Try being a driver for a week and maybe then you will understand the every day problems.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Medstar Medical Transport full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Management will not bother you as long as you are doing your job correctly and you are safe with the van and the patients you transport. You basically do your own thing, and have your system. You get to travel to different places and meet different people all the time. You rarely get tips, but it's nice when you do. You have the option to keep the van at your home. They try dispatch close to home on your start... time and try to end the day back close to home. OT usually available, and has a decent bonus program. Only recommend working here if you are looking for a decent job and need something to get by with the pay they offer.

    Cons

Low pay, unfortunately in this business they have high over head with gas prices, insurance, and maintenance with the vans in general. It's too hot in the summer. Drink lots of water and buy an extra car fan (12 vol) to help with blowing AC. If you take a van home you are not able to punch in until you get to your first ride and punch out when your last ride is, so hopefully it is close to home. Van washes and oil... changes seem to be done on your own time so in all I think I end up working 1 hour a pay period for free. Dispatch chooses your day, so be nice to them. You maybe scheduled on paper for 50 hours a week but may only end up with 42 per week. You sometimes have to deal with that smelly or rude patient but it doesn't happen too often.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the bonus program and pay everyone a higher rate. Better pay keeps better drivers! For those technicians that go above and beyond hand them out a gift card.
