I have been working at Medtronic full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Worthwhile mission. Stock price will continue to increase. Market leader.

    Cons

Completely dysfunctional workplace. Incompetent middle management. Slow processes. Incredibly difficult to get anything done. Who you are friends with / kiss up to is more important than achievement/output. If you want to be successful here, make sure you spend time becoming friends with influential people rather than getting your work done. There is NO benefit to working hard here. Attrition is very high. Marketing division is a revolving door. No career opportunities unless you are brought in as a senior marketing manager or in LDRP program.

    Advice to Management

LDRP program does not make people god. Treat these people harshly as you do everyone else. Look into why the engagement and inclusion scores are so low and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT instead of just talking around it. Give opportunities to develop and advance. Stop pigeonholing your people so they feel there's nothing left to do than leave. Recognize those who WORK HARD and ACCOMPLISH work, rather than those who are simply friends with VPs and Directors.

    Pros

Good company to work for that caters to healthcare and needs of customer. You know you are making a difference in peoples lives living with diabetes

    Cons

It is not always easy to move up and find job opportunities within the same dept. Salary increases are not always fair. Your job role is not always clearly defined. You may end up doing additional duties outside your job description and not get compensated for it.

    Advice to Management

be mindful of the talent you have in the company. Show employees they are worth it and compensate them accordingly.

    Cons

Extremely political management. Fearful leaders especially the VPs. Bad HR. No room for genuine people. All talk, no action. Hostile work place. Managers throw their own people under the bus. No real innovation. Always following competition. Toxic people and bad culture.

I worked at Medtronic (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You'll meet "some" very awesome people to work with. There are also a lot of very passionate employees, some of whom have Diabetes. The work you do makes a huge difference in people's lives. Helping people live longer and better lives is an amazing feeling.

    Cons

Lots of politics. You will meet some people, who are complete jerks to put in nice terms. Depending on who your manager is, you will definitely meet Managers, whose job is really about the company and nothing about you. Your life will be a nightmare with such a manager. The manager will probably tried to steer or carve a career roadmap for you you that is really about doing what will make him/her most successful or throwing you under the bus. Some managers are about themselves and could care less about your career. Some managers have no clue about what you do and will provide feedback that are his/her view of what you do without soliciting what you actually did from your peers/team members. I'd recommend detecting and leaving early enough if this happens to you. I left for this reason; have never met a worse Manager/person in my entire life. But there are good people/manager that works there as well, so everybody's experience will be different.

    Advice to Management

Watch carefully how some of your middle managers treat their direct reports. You might be in for a surprise. Value your employees. Give them career opportunities that will meet what their goals are instead of just yours.
On the good side, continue preaching about helping people live better lives through your product. It is an amazing thing for employees to understand that the work they do directly contributes to people living better lives with chronic illness.

Really fun experience. I got to wear a diabetes pump, go to internship events, listen to weekly research and career motivation speakers, and do volunteer work.

    Cons

They got busy after a few weeks while I was there so there was less communication after some time.
