    Pros

Not many the benefits. The people are ok but the union is a joke and gets the thirds hired back so they don’t loose there $6 a week.

    Cons

Management is out of touch. If you ever see them. Major changes going on and everyone is out of the loop.

    Advice to Management

    Get out of your office.

I worked at Meggitt full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Aviation, Aerospace and Defense industry can be an excellent idea for any up and coming or mid career engineer or technical manager. Statements by Meggitt about being a company of "smart engineering for extreme environments" imply that it is an innovative company. The pay is not competitive, but it is a great place to learn the technology, design and manufacturing skills that are used in the . There are many capable managers and engineers at local SBU's, however....

    Cons

...the however is that there are also quite a few very mediocre / sub-par managers, that one should watch out for. Game of Thrones comes to mind to describe how these people behave, and some refuse to see that is actually going on, that would be called obtuse, and then doing something about it That being said for all of its efforts, it seems as though there is far more to fix at Meggitt than one would reasonably expect to find in a company that is Tier 3 in the Aviation business to actually be competitive and innovative. My experience at Meggitt, including interacting with Senior Managers was less than inspiring, nor even gave me a sense of confidence that some of the very senior managers were actually competent. Nor is it a good place to be recognized and elevated for doing good work....recognition and promotion are nothing short of fantasy, despite lip service to the contrary. No sense of urgency that I could see consistently applied, let alone on how to solve and address problems in a timely fashion. You'll hear excuses for why the SBU / company is the way that it is dysfunctionally, but results are what results are . No amount of rhetoric is going to fix the poor performance and outcomes from some managers.

    Advice to Management

Admit when you haven't got a winning strategy or set of tactics in hand (because you've not gotten results using the pov of the person who suggested the idea), and come to admit that not everyone you've got working for you, or along side you actually owns what it means to be competent. Despite statements of experience by these managers, don't believe anything any one of them says until they deliver results, and then only work with those who actually deliver results that the company needs. Ham fisted managers (forcing / imposing their point of view) who say one thing and yet behavior points in the opposite direction, well....you had better be listening to the underlings about these managers and their actual management / leadership skills. It might be good idea to institute "360 review of managers" by their subordinates to get a better understanding on who is capable / competent, and who is not. There seriously needs to be a review of managerial performance, and not just those who can maintain to cost cutting measures and rigid budgeting, because you are not going to actually grow using cost cutting strategies, like Meggitt's version of Lean called MPS.
