    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Meharry Medical College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Salaried employees have fairly flexible work schedules
On site gym and cafeteria for employees and students
    Great health benefits
Medical clinic on site for lower cost healthcare options
Decent place to use as a stepping stone to further your career

    Cons

EXTREMELY top heavy with little regard or reward for those lower on the totem pole
Some higher ups have been with the org way too long and need to move on
Progress is stagnant due to a 'this is how we've always done it' mentality
    Change is absolutely NOT embraced
No bonuses and salaries are not competitive
Process improvements are needed big time
Low productivity and low employee morale
Opportunities for growth are scarce depending on department

    Advice to Management

Meharry is quite the organization. I believe that there is a great mission/vision but there are some steps that need to be taken to reach greatness. There is a wonderful foundation that has been built but some individuals including higher ups do not align with that vision. I think once the 'fat is trimmed' so to speak this place can begin to grow beyond leaps and bounds. Until then, it will remain stagnant.

I worked at Meharry Medical College full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Rich and powerful history. Small institution.

    Cons

Focus of attention is mainly on faculty not staff. They spend money frivolously. No pay scale and employees do not receive cost of living raises or bonuses unless they are faculty. They frequently layoff employees then post the same positions in the same departments 6-months to a year later at a lesser starting salary.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to be like Vanderbilt. Work on being Meharry; a small institution that puts all employees first. Get rid of some of the administrative dead wood.
