    Pros

Benefits are better than most companies. 401k on par. Health benefits very good and cheap

    Cons

Restructuring, only 10% discount in stores and its only for goods not groceries.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to the people

I worked at Meijer full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    privately owned, so true emphasis on making the best decision for the business, not from quarterly earnings pressure;

    Cons

Top heavy; need alignment across multiple areas; and in transition to scaling processes/systems/people expectations from private company culture to large accountability bases culture (so growing pains expected). Planning organization not as strongly valued vs other large retail companies. Vacation time very behind times for experienced leaders.

    Pros

Good job, enjoy the work. I feel challenged and there are some travel perks. The people are really great and all are very nice.

    Cons

Very political and about who you know. Pay is okay but not great and the benefits are poor. Got better benefits as a retail salesman.

I have been working at Meijer full-time

    Pros

    Good people
    Many with lots of seniority
    Good work/life balance

    Cons

no where near as stable as it use to be

    Advice to Management

Don't try to be Amazon or Walmart and compare on their metrics. Be Meijer!

I worked at Meijer full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Worked with some great people
    Promote from within
    Benefits, 401k, Life Insurance

    Cons

Restructuring - many loyal people lost jobs
    Blatant favoritism

    Advice to Management

Management should ask Team Members for feedback before drastically changing their area or department. This information could be helpful since some have found, what looks good on paper doesn't always work in real life.

I worked at Meijer full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The pay is ok for what you do. Camaraderie is mostly good, considering the impossible tasks you are asked to do.

    Cons

Dealing with extremely large volumes of customers is difficult. You cannot possibly please all of your customers due to the extremely limited labor budget and high volume groceries the store sells.

    Advice to Management

Increase labor budgets in the deli and meat departments. They have a lot of important tasks that help to protect the customer (food safety related). Give them the proper amount of time to complete their work.

I worked at Meijer full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Stable company, family owned, likely not going anywhere, if you can hack it, you'll have a job somewhere in the company. If you're struggling, they'll work to find a place for you to not do any damage. You kind of have to be an idiot to get fired.

    Cons

Slow to change, reactionary environment, resistant to change, love to hire VPs, but not people in stretched areas. When sales are down a bit, it's gloom and doom, but when profits soaring, WORK HARDER, despite no profit sharing and few areas being bonus eligible. Salary is below competitive for similar positions with companies of a similar size/stature.

    Advice to Management

Invest in retaining talent, be it salary wise, profit sharing, flexible/remote options or increased vacation time. Many longtime employees feel a real sense of ownership and responsibility to the company and community; don't exploit that -- reward it.

I have been working at Meijer full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Meijer's atmosphere is very positive and customer driven. The people are generally great to be around.
It's a very collaborative company that is looking to make the experience for the customer exceptional

    Cons

Depending on the area, there seem to be some restrictions driven from specific processes that prohibit merchants to run their business how they best see fit

I worked at Meijer as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

The team at Meijer was very easy to get to know and work with. I never felt like I was an intern and my project felt significant to the company.

    Cons

There is really no growth opportunities as a young professional and the compensation is not enough to sustain a lasting career at Meijer, unless you are okay with a salary that is only average, maybe below average.

    Advice to Management

Improve the compensation package for your younger talent. People love the company, but how are you going to grow the company if your top talent want to seek other opportunities?
