I have been working at Meketa Investment Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great exposure to Investmemt industry and consulting. Team is hard working and intelligent. Excellent work life balance with solid benefits. Supervisors are approachable amd understanding.

    Cons

Onboarding and training lacks structure. Not terrible if you are outgoing and don't mind reaching out to people. Hard to find things to keep you busy after reporting is complete for a quarter.

    Advice to Management

Think about maybe developing more structure when it comes to training new hires. Take this for what its worth since the compnay is smaller.

    Pros

*Great place for a young professional to start their career. The nature of the investment consulting business provides a bird's eye view of the overall investment industry.
*Many different paths to grow within the company.
*Fairly easy to get promoted, as long as you put in the work.
*Management does not expect their employees to stay after hours, but on occasion it is necessary.

    Cons

*Salaries are decent, but should be higher.
    *Bonuses are basically non-existent
    *Located in a suburb

I worked at Meketa Investment Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very nice and intelligent people to work with. Great culture – friendly, supportive environment. During busy and stressful periods the management tries to redistribute workloads evenly, even if it requires them to help out with the work of people they manage.

Senior people are generally open minded and encourage junior employees to work along their side, which provides great opportunities for learning and getting on board of new projects.

    Rapidly expending client base.

Nice work-life balance. It gets busy in the reporting periods, which might call for longer hours. Although, the managers do acknowledge the efforts, which sometimes results in a bonus.

    Cons

Below average/average pay and symbolic bonuses are the main disadvantage.
Training of the new employees at all levels should be improved, even if it calls for a new hire to be challenged more than he/she expected - more challenging learning curve will eventually turn beneficial for both: the company and the new employee him/herself.

    Advice to Management

The higher pay could significantly improve situation: lower the turnover, attract competent talent, encourage higher quality work and dedication of the current employees.

I worked at Meketa Investment Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work/Life balance was excellent, I worked past 6PM only twice. Great opportunity for senior investment staff with families. Both occasions resulted in senior staff thanking me personally for my efforts. CFA/CAIA reimbursement and bonus. Occasional mid-day activities break up the routine.

    Cons

Pay was a significant issue, certainly well below average for a comparable role. Bonuses were mostly token in amount. This could be changing due to recent significant turnover. It was not clear that there was a set development plan for those at the associate level, besides taking over jobs that were left behind. No clear mentorship opportunities were available for junior investment personnel (this could be changing). Proprietary software was outdated and bug-filled for the most part.

    Advice to Management

Construct clear goals for junior personnel and make development/mentorship a priority.

I worked at Meketa Investment Group (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Any Investment management consultant position is a challenging role and a good place to be positioned for a long term career in the institutional investment management field. Meketa is as good place as any to get introduced to the industry, but solid advice to anyone looking is to not stick around too long on this sinking ship.

    Cons

Management is incompetent and this firm rots from the head down. Personnel are viewed as a commodity and as cheap aftermarket parts. Any financial upside is horded by a small coterie of senior partners. The firm's base business, serving Taft-Hartley multi-employer accounts, is a wasting asset and the rest of the business is "bought" by underpricing incumbent consultants. Who would want to buy this firm much less want to be a partner? A few, including partners, have already voted with their feet and waked away.

    Advice to Management

Rhetorical question: "Any surprise that massive defections at all levels plague the firm now that the recession has passed (which locked in the best for just a short while) and ample jobs are readily available elsewhere?"

    Pros

Really smart people, somewhat flexible schedule, a really good group of active people outside the office. Challenging and fairly autonomous work environment; employees are allowed to run with their ideas, really interesting client base

    Cons

Growth of firm means more cooks in the kitchen with respect to management, lower level positions tend toward burnout if employees aren't engaged in looking for growth opportunities. As with any job, your manager has a disproportionate impact on your success or failure and overall job satisfaction.

    Advice to Management

Focus on developing lower level employees into long term contributors

I worked at Meketa Investment Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The firm provides a good/work life balance mainly to compensate for the lack of compensation. They are also flexible as far as scheduling goes. This is also likely due to the lack of compensation. The employees are generally smart and well educated.

    Cons

There are many problems at the company. Compensation is terrible and the opportunity for career advancement is even worse. Motivation is difficult when there is really no incentive to work hard. Some employees seemed to be working part time hours despite having senior titles. Turnover at all levels, even at partner, has skyrocketed and most would likely attribute that to poor compensation. Senior management views everyone as replaceable and the turnover will likely continue. The CEO seems to spend more time abroad than in the office and no one is really clear on how he adds value to the firm.

    Advice to Management

Review your compensation policies and provide incentives to perform at a high level.

successful company, good reputation, good track record

    Cons

dead silent workplace, seems most people don't enjoy each other, poor pay rates, over work the data analysts leading to extremely high turnover in that position
