I have been working at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Up till September 2015 this place was a joy to work at, after that point the morale plummeted thanks to a misguided restructure that replaced, moved or removed some of the most skilled staff.

    Cons

Salary increases for non-EBA staff once assured to be at or near CPI (cost of living) have been replaced by an entirely subjective evaluation system which was advertised to staff originally as a tool to increase their productivity and aim for acheivements but changed to a performance management system that directly affected salary increases 2 months before it closed for 2016. This left the majority of front line staff...

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees instead of taking a rose coloured view of the situation and take note on exactly who is leaving and how the loss of their experience and skills has affected amd will affect day to day operations.

    Pros

Great supportive staff. Lots of flexibility for hours. Works great if you are university student. Non stressful environment. Good atmosphere

    Cons

Lack of development pathways. Is seasonal so the work is very inconsistent and can often mean you have very little work

    Advice to Management

More emphasis on pathway progression and training and development

I have been working at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre

    Pros

Excellent location - close to the city, public transport, South Wharf/Casino area. Really good venue - staff facilities (change rooms, staff restaurant, offices etc). Workplace culture is positive and people are proud to work here. Management are open and inclusive. Lots of changes happening recently - in a good way, designed to make this a better place to work.

    Cons

No real cons per se - the MCEC seems to be constantly looking at ways to improve, recognising that no workplace is perfect. They are open to receiving feedback which is really positive.
