    I worked at Melink full-time

    Pros

The people. Melink is guilty of hiring based on personality over skill. They have built a culture around everyone getting along. Steve Melink was put on this planet to lead and innovate, and has been a great mentor during my time at Melink.

    Cons

As stated above, Melink is guilty of hiring based on personality over skill. Sadly, this creates favoritism. My advice: if you are accepting a job at Melink, make sure to adapt to their ways and ride the wave. Change/Progress happens at a painfully slow pace, so don't push the envelope.

"Best Place to Work". Melink's Best Place to Work metrics have dropped significantly over the past couple of years. Between 2016 and 2017, the survey resulted in a 7% drop in employee happiness overall. Melink saw the most significant drops in Fairness, Credibility, and Respect; Including a 19% drop in people feeling they get paid fairly for what they do.

In Melink's defense, they are actively slowly trying to fix the issues

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees. Educate yourselves on their concerns before forming your own opinions. Support Change!

I have been working at Melink (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The best part about the company is bar-none its people and more importantly their leadership. The culture is the most positive and authentic I have ever seen. The new President has been with the company for 10 years and recently was promoted by the CEO. The impact this individual has, and is, having on the company is very positive. The culture is the perfect balance of high accountability, managing results, respect, and having fun.

    Cons

The company is growing and with that comes a lot of change. The change can be difficult to keep up with but it is in the spirit of keeping up with demand and continuous improvement. The people seem to bend backwards for their customers. At times this can be very demanding. But it's also difficult to be too critical of good people who work hard to make their customers happy.

    Advice to Management

Whatever you're doing - keep it up. This company is on a great trajectory.

    Pros

    - Positive, uplifting work environment where people consistently like to help one another
    - Ethical work environment
    - Leadership truly cares for employees
    - Great work/life balance
    - The company is highly-esteemed within the Cincinnati community. So many times I've been proud to say I work at Melink.
    - Autonomous management style
    - ONSITE GYM!
    - Charging stations and financial incentive for electric cars
    - Larger-than-themselves perspective
    - Great health benefits

    Cons

    - Not a fit for someone that likes to be told exactly what to do
    - Have to take charge for your own professional development and training
    - Like any small business, you face limited resources
    - Performance review process could be improved

    Advice to Management

It seems like leadership has figured out the right type of people to hire. So keep up the good work. I also admire the team's priority on bringing the employees together more often for the sake of having fun. I'd advise the management team to continue placing focus on results and holding employees accountable. It would be a good idea to have defined KPIs for every role.

    I worked at Melink full-time

    Pros

Decent pay if you are liked by management

    Cons

Upper management is very strict and unfair, starting at the very top. It's a fear based management style and employees are too stressed out to work hard. Company used to be a lot more stable and fair (despite the president) and kept good employees for a long time. With big changes in upper management and a drastically different company mindset, it's opposite now and they can't hire or keep good employees like they used to or they just don't know how anymore. Used to be a great company but changed drastically in past 4-5 years because the great managers and directors left. Company was also going places back then and now it seems to be going nowhere. Its a sad story of a once great company with potential who threw it all away because they didn't value or appreciate their people.

    Advice to Management

Ease up on everyone and let people speak their minds without punishments. Harsh criticism and demeaning attitudes just beats people down and so is expecting everyone to act like a puppet. Picking favorites and going all out just for them while scapegoating everyone else serves nobody. Don't forget where you came from.

I worked at Melink full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It was great working in a platinum rated, green building. Health benefits are generous. Co-workers are playfull and enjoy doing their work.

    Cons

There is no job security. In two years, I must have seen 50 people come and go, most of which were quite capable. And, there are only about 75 people that work there.
    Compensation is below market wages.
HR is terrible, shady. Hence the high turnover.
The company doesn't provide much opportunity for advancement. It's pretty much about seniority.
They are loyal to no one.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees with an open mind! Stop pretending you always know exactly what to do, because you are running the company into the ground.

I worked at Melink full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

*Great co-workers, challenging work, fun environment
*They practice what they preach - recycling, composting, reducing energy usage, renewable energy (solar, wind, etc.) - really cool to be a part of that!
*Solid business units - you can be proud to work there
*They hire smart people (sadly, they don't use them to their fullest!)
*People outside the company respect it - nice to work for a company that has the reputation it does

    Cons

*Management really doesn't like to hear the truth, particularly the owner, especially if you have any kind of criticism - he takes things very personally and you will be marked as a traitor from that point on
*Hire smart people then don't use their smarts - as an employee, you are constantly undercut by management, particularly the owner who thinks he knows more than you do just because he started the company in his basement
*Work/life balance is encouraged, but you will be criticized for maintaining it!
*Constant calls from vendors looking for their payments
*Company preaches ethics and integrity but they do things that are questionable
*HR doesn't keep confidences - careful what you tell them
*Check your pay stubs carefully each pay period! Document any inconsistencies.
*Squeezing more out of less...layoffs, people being taken to part-time...does not instill a lot of confidence and employees are beat.

    Advice to Management

*Trust the people you hire! They are smart and can help. If you aren't going to trust them, then just hire a bunch of HS kids who will just do what you say. It will be cheaper in the long run
*If you are going to tell people about your ethics and integrity, you should probably follow those yourself
*Management needs to be honest with the owner on things that are going on
*Employees know more about what is going on than management...but they won't tell you if they get punished if it doesn't live up to your views of how things are
