I worked at Melissa full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Bagels on Mondays. Nice monitors.

    Cons

    Mid-morning snacks are from Costco.
HR Sexual Harassment Complaint process is a joke.
Salaries are very low for Software Engineers.

    Advice to Management

Take Sexual Harassment complaints seriously. And pay Software Engineers at least the market rate, and not the intern rate.

    Pros

Job performance, work excellence, creativity and employee development are all balanced well. You really feel like a member of the family when the kitchen table is loaded with fresh fruit for anytime snacks. We've got bagels, donuts, company lunches, department lunches, exercise classes, free haircuts, car washes while we work and basketball games in the parking lot. The owner and the rest of upper management is quite accessible and open to ideas. Hard work and fresh ideas are rewarded with promotion and advancement.

    Cons

It's a bit remote. The toll road is very convenient but costly. The freeway is congested during rush hour. The company only has only 4 locations so transfer options are limited. Employee turnover is very low so the advancement opportunities are limited.

    Advice to Management

    Bonuses more often.

    Pros

Company truely cares about employees' well being:

Bagel Day, Donut Day, Fresh fruit Day, Yoga Classes, Personal Trainers, In Office Massage, Profit Sharing Etc.....

Great starting pay and ramp up system

    Cons

Limited opportunity for growth above team manager

Find yourself with little to do during down time - can feel like working for a call center rather than a sales position

    Advice to Management

Continue to treat employees kindly and people will continue to speak highly of your company. Hiring from sources other than within may bring more qualified employees.

I have been working at Melissa full-time

    Pros

Free bfast on Mondays, free lunch on wed, and free breakfast item on Fri.
HR lady is super nice & gives you a map on your first day.
    Pretty competitive salary.

    Cons

    Where do I begin.

    1) All higher-ups are male. Even women who;'ve worked there for 12+ years aren't in management positions.
    2) Many of management have issues with women expressing their opinions. At some point, you just give up.
    3) Benefits are DISMAL. CEO really should nix free food in favor of better healthcare and 401k.
    4) Management is passive agressive, so there's no paper trail to take to HR. Things will be said/done that you will never have 'evidence' for. Such as telling you it was a bad decision to hire you or you're doing terrible at your job and shouldn't be here. This would be fine if it was warrented, but management is lazy in task descriptions and feedback, so it's impossible to know what they want, when, and how to do it.
    5) Turnover rate is HIGH, and there is a reason for that.

    Advice to Management

Look at how you're treating your employees. If you walk by a department and theyre all miserable, that should show you something. Also, nix free food in favor of better benefits. Do performance reviews for management as well as those below them, as it's often the management who are making things miserable.

    I worked at Melissa full-time

    Pros

Absolutely the worst place to go. Keep your current job or move on to the next job. if you like being belittled and treated like garbage then this is your place.

    Cons

very very boring. Very high stress in high-pressure job. I thought this was going to be a really really good job but turns out that I should have just got the job that I had to begin with.

    Advice to Management

remember when you were the low man on the totem pole. It doesn't help to treat people like garbage. Low morale Goetz low production results.

    Pros

Bagel day, Yoga, paid meals, services

    Cons

Unresponsive management, uneven application of guidelines and rules. Favored employees allowed to use company resources for political/person business. Blame the messenger avoidance culture. Bullying and harassment rumored but did not personally experience. Anxious for most of time employed.

    Advice to Management

Cut the Fat. Respond professionally to complaints. Fire employees using company resources for online political organizing.
