- 4.0Oct 15, 2023Truck DriverFormer Employee, more than 1 yearTulsa, OK
Pros
They take care of you and provide you what you need. Home time can be a little hard with the 1 day for every 7 days out but if you want to run hard and make money they'll run you hard. Unless of course, a load shortage comes up. (This usually happens during the winter)
Cons
Winter is a bit slow and the work is hard.

Pros
If you’re willing no to run you’ll make fair pay here. My DM was super fair and was willing to work with me. Melton takes care of its drivers and was always honest to me on my bonus pay, my hometime and didn’t mind me taking it slower in bad weather for safety.
Cons
It’s flatbedding you’ll be outside in the burning heat and the freezing cold

Pros
not micromanaged decent equipment great support for new CDL holders great pay for new drivers
Cons
poor pay for senior drivers miles get cut with blame on economy, but other companies are still pumping 3K miles a week

Pros
The company really does put an emphasis on safety and does well to look after the health and well-being of all of their drivers. They don't just throw you to the wolves either. They do their best to teach you all you need to know during your 2 week orientation.
Cons
Miles weren't great during the winter months and they kept my routes insanely short to "teach me a lesson" about the times I choose to drive my truck. Repowers can be a pain since you may get stuck with trash equipment and holey tarps while having to fork up yours to the driver who doesn't care. Their bad about getting you home on time.

Hello and thank you for your detailed review. We hate to see you have had a poor experience with Melton. We care about the wellbeing of our drivers and want them to be safe always. The market does change throughout the year, while winter might have some short runs, that does not last forever and long runs will return. At Melton we have a 98% success rate of getting drivers home on time. We know that we cannot be perfect every time, but the TAMs and DMs work hard to get you home on time. Please call our Driver Services team at 918-270-2500 to talk more about the shortening miles situation. We would love to help resolve this situation.

Pros
It is a good company. You will be treated well and accommodated once you have proven yourself. Equipment is GOOD and maintenance is top notch. Your ability to maintain equipment is also required
Cons
Right now there is a slowed freight market. A whole lot of sitting and not earning. This is exasperated by MTL’s fixation on new hires 60ish per week. They want to grow the fleet in a slow freight market? They have lost established accounts creating bottle necks. In-experienced drivers are not helping and many experienced drivers are moving on or looking for better operations.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave your honest feedback. We appreciate your overall positive comments about driver support, equipment, and our maintenance team. However, we are sorry to hear other parts of your experience were not positive. You are correct in pointing out the current freight market is not as healthy as we experienced in the previous two years. This is not a Melton-specific downturn, and is something that has impacted the entire transportation industry. Please know we do take your feedback seriously and are constantly working to keep drivers busy with reliable, productive freight options. If you would like to discuss your information or suggestions further, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Driver Services team where they can help explain in further detail our expanded capacity efforts, the current freight environment, and more: 918-270-9613.
