I have been working at Membrane Technology and Research full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Stable job. Steady work. Not much pressure, depending on manager. Can be laid back and flexible

    Cons

Treats everyone the same regardless of work input. Doesn't appreciate employees. Low salaries and very low 401k and expensive healthcare.

    Advice to Management

Needs a business mentality and better collaboration between research, manufacturing, and sales to run the company in order to achieve new levels and prosper. Retain and award talent.

I worked at Membrane Technology and Research full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Offers challenging technical projects for active-minded engineers and scientists. The work schedule is flexible and includes generous vacation and sick leave provisions. Job security is essentially ensured provided expectations are met.

    Cons

The office environment presents an unsettling ambiance suggesting that its people aren't particularly content with their responsibilities. Company products are esoteric with limited commercial potential and project funding remains dependent on government grants. Management insists on having exceptional talent but won't compensate accordingly for it, which is often the case with a niche industry. Management further appears to favor the opportunity for criticism over praise and has limited interest in providing training and guidance; such a shortcoming proved to be critical following a catastrophic laboratory accident involving the death of an employee and injury to another. Career advancement is essentially confined to sycophants and PhDs, and a couple of higher-ups have taken advantage of their positions to have inappropriate relationships with their subordinates which continues to this day.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with the respect they deserve and keep your relationships STRICTLY PROFESSIONAL. Ensure certified robust safety training measures are in place including Stop Work Authority and mandate the participation of all lab personnel. Encourage more teamwork.

    Pros

I worked at MTR for eight years and learned quite a bit on gas separation membranes. I do have to say your level of satisfaction at this company will be determined by the effectiveness of your manager. They have both good and bad managers. I was lucky to get a good manager/mentor. The company prides itself in hiring people of different ethnicities. Company also prides itself in not laying off their employees and a few that are let go are practically let go because they are doing nothing!

    Cons

Being a small company sometimes the employees may feel like there is no room for growth

    Advice to Management

Create different levels within a position, i.e Engineer I, II, or III so people feel like they are growing within the company
