I worked at Memorial Medical Center (IL) part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You get a lot of option with your hours if you are part time or per diem. Everyone is very sweet and helpful.

    Cons

Some days the hospital is very, very slow and that can make for a boring 8 hours.

I have been working at Memorial Medical Center (IL) full-time

    Pros

Great teams to work with, both clinically and non clinically.

    Cons

Not a lot of opportunity in management if you do not have a masters degree.

    Advice to Management

It would be beneficial to look beyond degrees, when promoting from within. If someone has worked for MMC for 10 years with a Bach degree, but is not considered for a management position because they do not have a masters, you run the risk of losing vitally important staff. On the job experience should mean more than it does.

    Pros

Family centered facility. Great manager and co workers. Decent insurance

    Cons

Staffing. Patient ratio. Charge nurse with 7 patients and having to tech for 4 of them often. Too much stress and liability. Advancement opportunities.

I worked at Memorial Medical Center (IL) full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent resources and technology for patient care. The hospital is always looking forward at what they can provide for their patients.

    Cons

Management is too far removed from the clinical side of healthcare. They focus too closely on numbers on paper and not on how staff feels the clinical side is performing.

I worked at Memorial Medical Center (IL) full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Overall, I would recommend working for MMC. I enjoyed the staff I worked with. The salary was fair and there were multiple adjustments d/t market during my employment. Management encourages and helps staff advance their education and return to school.

    Cons

There were many changes while I was there, including the building of a new patient tower that was opened before adequate staff were trained or hired, leaving the rest of the hospital who were already shortstaffed to help cover the gaps. The pros outweighed any cons for me, however.

I have been working at Memorial Medical Center (IL) (More than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers are nice and engaging, opportunities to learn, large campus, consistently meet new people

    Cons

There is limited career advancement within my department and transferring to a different department is difficult because of the selection process. Even with a degree and qualifying, the chances are still very challenging. They may/will even hire someone who is less qualified to fill the position. Also, the pay is low and raises are not much. Scheduling can also be a problem at times.

    Advice to Management

Recognize and reward the coworkers who are constantly contributing to the overall success of the organization more, and every employee should be treated equally in terms of respect. Senior management should consider looking over the core values of the organization and have the hiring/transferring process probed.

I have been working at Memorial Medical Center (IL) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits with part time , encourages you to be involved , co workers are nice and eager to jump in and train you

    Cons

Hiring process is too long , high turnover , low pay , everything has to go through Springfield , not a lot of services

    Advice to Management

Start out at a higher pay to make the odd hours more appealing . The shift differential helps but the pay lower here than surrounding cities
