I have been working at Memorial Sloan Kettering full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

MSK offers truly amazing benefits for yourself or your partner. The community at at MSK is supportive and nurturing, and employees /want/ to come to work every day which completely changes the work atmosphere. The employee resource networks promote inclusion and diversity among all employees, and that support is truly phenomenal. The support for transitioning employees and gender nonconforming patients is admirable.

    Cons

As a nonprofit, salaries are not high. Sometimes workload vs compensation feels.. less than satisfactory?, however I would not say it's necessarily unfair. Treatment and happiness varies between departments as does your administrative support but the teams that I am a part of have been supportive. I am fortunate enough that my immediate colleagues are people I would like to work with long-term.

    Advice to Management

Evaluate your compensation for staff at all levels. Have more flexibility in wages so as to be more competitive with other institutions.

    Pros

Great company to work for. Excellent benefits. A lot of great opportunity to work with some of the greatest minds in oncology. I feel supported by all my coworkers and think that MSKCC fosters a work environment that promotes friendship over competition

    Cons

Sometimes difficult to cooperate with higher-ups. Lack of connection and understanding of the day to day work of others positions in the same environment.

I have been working at Memorial Sloan Kettering (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The salary is higher than the average for a postdoctoral scientist in the city.

    Cons

A lot of pressure from the PI. Sometimes you loose the biologic sense of the problems you study and the work is really focused on publications.
