I worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You will definitely be a part of a great mission, and you will gain a lot of valuable skills at an incredibly reputable institution. Working here is like resume bootcamp.

    Cons

It really depends on the department. Some departments have more staff, more support, more work-life balance, others just do not. MSK can sometimes rest on a "you're lucky to be here attitude" without valuing employees.

    Advice to Management

Consider department complexity when evaluating compensation, not all departments are creating equal - a job title does not mean the same thing across an organization of 20k people. Make sure managers have training to retain and motivate talented employees, especially at the management-level contributor and above level. Those folks will probably be harder to replace if they turn over.

I have been working at Memorial Sloan Kettering full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, better pay than most hospitals, amazingly capable and driven colleagues.

    Cons

On the clinical trials side, an errant tendency to promote based off time on the job within MSK rather than merit. Results in losing quality team members who want to professionally develop at a more rapid pace.

    Advice to Management

The clinical trials office should relax its rigid promotion and compensation structure in order to retain the very best employees.
