    "NYC's best biomedical research institution"

    Pros

It's one of the few major employment centers for a non-academic track (i.e. staff) skilled molecular biologist in NYC proper. Most of the pharma companies are in North Jersey or Long Island. But then, the atmosphere is much more relaxed than it would be at, say, Abbott or GSK.
Pay is a notch (or three) above the other comparable academic institutions in NYC.
Also, of course, its high standards of care and noble mission make it a prestigious employer.
Research is very well supported with funding, administrative help, and a beautiful new research lab building.

    Cons

This is only personal -- i'm not terribly interested in clinical research so my opportunities are rather limited. But i wouldn't hold that against the institution.
Few other downsides. It's a bit of a hike from the subway, but not as bad as Rockefeller University.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work?

    Pros

You feel good about helping cancer patients whether it is through direct care or if you are helping the institution on the back end. It is literally the best care, anywhere.

    Cons

It is a large academic medical center that often takes a long time to mobilize any kind of change across the institution. In addition, management is constantly challenged with making these changes due to the hierarchy complexities working with doctors and managers.

    Advice to Management

I really enjoy the intrinsic and extrinsic benefits my job gives me. Maintain these and you'll have excellent staff for years to come!

    Pros

They promote from within when possible, offer great opportunities for growth.

    Cons

Just the usual pitfalls of large institutions. The culture is slow to evolve. But with great leadership anything is possible!

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing! Memorial has a strong history and will continue to be a leader in quality care.

    Pros

For the amount of work and expected tasks the salary was very good. The staff is very friendly and they are quite kind to their employees

    Cons

It always appears that though the supervisors were very well equipped for the job and efficient the higher the management the less efficient.

    Advice to Management

Have internal HR evaluations or ask employees to evaluate their supervisiors to ensure they are qualified for the position as there might be a better option.

    Pros

There is pride among employees since MSKCC is a premiere cancer institution. Everyone is treated well and the cafeteria is the best!

    Cons

Whenever health is involved, it can be difficult. I was lucky to work in an area where the mortality rate was very low.

    Pros

This is one of the few remaining truly mission-driven healthcare institutions in the US. Even our CFO puts mission before finances. Senior leadership has offered us opportunities to do more innovative things than anyone might imagine to be reasonable. This is a great institution with a great future in the war against cancer.

    Cons

Like any large, older institution, MSK has some bureaucracy that can be frustrating at times. It is also true that not all executives are equally effective. That said, anyone who seeks the betterment of the mission will find their place here.

    Advice to Management

Better communication with staff would go a long way to fostering a stronger sense of mission among the more junior employees.

    Cons

This hospital is very large, therefore there are many employees you will never get to meet with.
