    Pros

Work outside.see the animals. Loved seeing the animals.

    Cons

The worst places I've ever worked at. The mgt.is a joke. The people are rude, one of fifteen is nice and helpful. No training. The reception area is the worst. HR. Is an even bigger joke. I truly believe Chuck Brady and Clayton have no idea how the staff is treated by the mgt. Or the laughable team leaders. The event staff is even so unprofessional , they think they are so important ..here is a wake up call..There are other venues that want ppls. money. And you don't have to make an appt. For your backwards services. The lack of communication between ppl. Is almost hilarious. Looks like that toy Gorilla playing the cymbals ..I have seen workers sitting around coloring..yes a so called adult coloring, a lot of playing and not a lot of working. Just a paycheck for some who really feel entitled. Don't work there. Waste of time.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be proper training, & def. Mgt. There at night. Not a laughable team leader who constantly makes huge misstakes. Like leaving sting rays unlocked and stores unlocked. Gates open. When will someone face consequences? Your too busy with Greensward..and the ppl. That work there are miserable.

I worked at Memphis Zoo full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Diverse animal collection and a few employees who aren't bitter and disgruntled

    Cons

Administration does not invest in employees or provide any type of incentives to increase morale. You are viewed as replaceable and treated as such. Salaries are very low for all staff positions - keepers who must have degrees are not even paid a living wage. Don't be fooled into thinking that management cares about the animals; their only concern is how much money they can bring in from events and fundraisers to pad their own salaries. Depending on what department you work in, you may or may not get a lunch. I've seen several employees with dedication and strong work ethics to be passed over for promotions, because Administration has an affirmative action policy in place to hire Macy's employees.

    Advice to Management

Where do I begin...treat ALL of your employees with respect. During the annual fundraising events, quit acting like the sky is falling. It's the same event every year...nothing changes. Hire people outside of Macy's - the Memphis Zoo is not a retail store.

I have been working at Memphis Zoo as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It's a tourist attraction, and offers many seasonal employment opportunities for local residents.

    Cons

Nothing really, it is what it is.

    Advice to Management

Pay zoo keepers what they're worth, they're the only reason anyone in the main office is employed.

I worked at Memphis Zoo full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Wonderful zoo, decent benefits, excellent location, animal staff is dedicated and easy to work with, laid back atmosphere, steady schedule

    Cons

low pay, herd mentality, upper admin managers are overpaid for the amount of work they do and don't care about the animals

    Advice to Management

Don't worry just about parties, take an interest in the animals. They're the reason you have a job. Increase zookeeper pay. The people who take care of the animals deserve more respect than they receive
