I worked at Menards full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Plenty of opportunities for those willing to work retail hours. Full time 30-40K, department management 50-65K, Store management reaches the low 100's. Great profit sharing program.

    Cons

Menards pays 50% of low quality health insurance premiums. You can promote to department management locally but you will be expected to relocate to move into an assistant store manager and usually again to promote to store management, once you are a store manager you will be encouraged to relocate to open new stores. Store management not great if you want to raise a family in one area or have a spouse with a good career path.

    Advice to Management

Place more value on experience and knowledge than a willingness to relocate.

I have been working at Menards part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay is great is you are wanting something to supplement you income on a part-time basis.

enjoyed working with most of my co-cashiers and front end management team

Pretty good about scheduling around requested time off.

    Cons

    point system for absences.
management seems to be overworked and stressed
training is a little lax as far as procedures and policies for cashiers
would be great to have cheat sheets available for transactions not performed frequently
standing for 8-9 hours on a very skinny little mat is horrible for the back, feet and legs. (this is why I quit - going to take me a couple months of PT to recoup from my back issues)

    Advice to Management

get some better mats for the cashiers.
Everyone needs work-life balance to prevent burn-out - including management and management trainees.
Reconsider and revise the way you correct employees. write-ups will dampen employee moral. How about accentuating positive attributes of employees instead of constantly pointing out wrong...
Take better care of your employees and they will take better care of you.
Customer Care is so VERY important. without it business will not thrive. The policy of picking tickets needs to be revisited. sometimes managers will print them for disgruntled customers, but most of the time they will not. Customers get angry and leave thereby, causing a loss of sales

    Pros

    -Pay is very good.
-Benefits have been stated to be some of the best in retail (Though I never had these benefits because I was part time)

    Cons

-Standard Breaks on weekends were seldom given, let alone on time.
-Nagged by an admittedly beautiful, blonde, overbearing, 20-something white chick over anything and everything, everyday.
    -

    Advice to Management

Be nicer to your employees. Try to get breaks on time too.

    I worked at Menards part-time

    Pros

Flexible hours, overtime pay, weekend shift pay, independent work, relaxing environment

    Cons

    Mandatory overtime, poor management communication

    Advice to Management

Asked previous management to provide me with a letter of reference or be a reference for me, and was told "Menards doesn't do that." That news was definitely surprising. You'd think that they would tell you that in the interview, but no. Who wants to work for a company that can't vouch for their employees or previous employees? If you want to feel appreciated as an employee, and not just a number, i suggest you work elsewhere. Unless you're just looking for a temp job that's easy and okay pay.
