I have been working at Menards full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Once you get into management the pay is okay but they keep you around with bonuses.
Good pay for someone starting part-time. Typically you can always pick up extra hours somewhere.

    Cons

The expectations for making payroll are difficult to reach. It's hard to promote up, especially within the store you start at. You can max your pay out. Corporate is quick to call for your job if they disagree with something.

    Advice to Management

5 days a week isn't difficult but management expects too much from new management and let experienced team members get too comfortable.

    Pros

Profit Sharing, multiple bonuses, learning opportunities, promotion opportunities, and more.

    Cons

If you're not willing to put in the work to make yourself and the company better, you will be pushed out.

    Advice to Management

Recent changes to benefits and vacation are a good start. Don't stop here. We need to keep making ourselves attractive to potential talent in a very competitive job market.

I worked at Menards part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Extra 2.50 buck an hour for working on weekends
Holiday bonus....that is if you work until December that's when it comes
Profit sharing.....that is if you work for 1,000 hours or more AND stay with Menards after December 15th.

    Cons

If you're an able bodied man, there's a chance of you to go out and get carts when there's heavy movement in-store and not a lot of carts to go around, ever since they raised the age to 18 and stopped hiring high schoolers, this is the part where they are short on able-bodied people that can go out and get carts in hot & cold weather for 4-6 hours a shift. They raised the age to get by federal labor regulations because even though the store closes at 10 or 9 during the winter hours, front-end employees have to stay to put away crap that the craptomers came and return crap that they don't want.
No incentives to work on Black Friday. You are forced to work, if you don't and sleep in and play video games with your brother on Black Friday and return on Saturday morning to work, you'll get fired in two weeks

    Advice to Management

You have to give an incentive ($5.00-$10 extra an hour) to work on Black Friday instead of just forcing them to work or firing them when they show up. If you guys don't care much about the employees, why should they care about you? And thus...the turnover rate continues to be high.

Btw, better buy more mart-carts, I noticed one was busted and doesn't work anymore and the other one continues to be the only mart-cart that's available towards old people and people with disabilities. Bad timing considering the fact that the baby boomers are more retiring and their bodies are decaying every year. Also factor in how huge Menards stores tend to be, it'll become a chore walking into to a massive store to walk out with bulbs, batteries, and toilet paper.

I worked at Menards part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

$2.50 bonus for working weekends. IPS (Instant Profit Sharing checks) if you achieve 1,000 and worked past December 15. It's 2.5% of your annual income plus 2.5% every year up to 15%. You get some decent gifts every holiday and birthday that can range from chap sticks to a stainless steel spatula.

    Cons

The politics of the management: General Managers are very strict. You can stay hours later after close if it means to get the job done; and that usually results in clocking out at 11:30-12am every shift. Not an ideal job if you have a significant other, children, or pets at home to tend to. They will deduct up to $200 every week on your payroll if you damage something.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating employees like they're disposable; and maybe you wont have such a high turnover rate! They believe if someone quits it's because they were a weak employee, but it's really the GM's attitude that makes people leave. I chose a minimum wage job over making $450 a week; and I have yet to have any regrets.
