    Pros

Biotech with diverse needs of maintenance... Required using most of my learned skills. Great place to continue knowledge of career

    Cons

Upper management needs to be more open to criticism to help advance the business of running the operations... All ideas should have merit

    Advice to Management

Listen to advice from all levels of employees to keep a proactive environment and keep employees wanting to be more than willing to continue growth of the company

I worked at Mendel Biotechnology part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The facilities are relatively nice although going construction with easy free parking. Access to free beverages from coffee, tea, soda, water is provided but no food. It is a good place to begin a career in the biotech industry. The science is good with extremely smart team leads.

    Cons

Local food options are limited to a plethora of cheap and fast food and you most definitely have to commute to site. New hires did not have an adjustment period rather they were thrown into their team's respective work so be prepared on your first day.

    Advice to Management

Make an effort for new hires to feel welcome.

"Great research, smart colleagues, low pay"

I worked at Mendel Biotechnology full-time

    Pros

Mendel had a great sense of family while I was there. Most people at all levels--technicians, scientists, administration, management--were approachable and worked very hard. I had the sense that I was working for a team. Colleagues were very smart. The science was usually exciting.

    Cons

Feasibility of some of the research projects wasn't always good; too little time and not enough hands often made for too many crunch times and stressed technicians. Local lunch options are not great. Commuting by public transit is difficult since Mendel is far from the BART station. Commuting by car is better but still difficult because Mendel is at a major, congested freeway intersection.

I worked at Mendel Biotechnology full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The management is very approachable and work-life balance was great. I never had a problem using vacation time. Most coworkers are extremely competent.

    Cons

Compensation was well below average. Several years of layoffs have been detrimental to morale. The location of the facility is not public transit friendly.

I have been working at Mendel Biotechnology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You will work with very smart, dedicated people. The company is small so you get to know everyone.

    Cons

Because it's small, there aren't any special perks.

  9. "A very research-focused organization"

I have been working at Mendel Biotechnology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People at Mendel are very open about communication regarding their work and what is going on within their groups. They do a good job of sharing results and issues.

    Cons

There is not much appreciation for cross-functional requirements or constraints. Too much emphasis on results, without considering the best way to get there.

    Advice to Management

Improve the company experience by deeper consideration of individuals below the senior staff level. While lots of information is shared by senior management it doesn't translate into equal concern for what it may mean to everyone.

Only a dozen great restaurants nearby, infrequent/seldom company-sponsored lunches, facilities issues take longer than they should.
