I worked at Mentor Graphics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Freedom to act autonomously and quickly

Old technology. Out of touch with customer. Milking the cow.

    Advice to Management

You need fresh new development objectives. Your customers have great ideas. Listen to customer.

I worked at Mentor Graphics (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Worked there for a long time. Used to be a great place to work. Not so much anymore.

    Cons

Declining industry and company. Sluggish company.

    Pros

Pay was ok and provided flexible working hours

    Cons

A lot of politics in management. If you aren't on the right side of this, growth opportunities are limited. Pushes the boundaries of ethics on hiring and release policies.

    Advice to Management

Upper management seems more concerned about self-preservation than they are about the overall success of the company and it's employees.

I have been working at Mentor Graphics full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They take good care of you. Personal offices are common. Campus facilities are good, and the management doesn't inflict unnecessary stress.

    Cons

The culture doesn't take software engineering very seriously. Most engineers are domain experts rather than software experts, so there's a serious lack of software engineering skill, and it shows. On top of that, two teams in the same hallway might compete against each other for the same market space, and jealously guard their code. Expect to see a number of forked code bases that are run into the ground.

    Advice to Management

Take software engineering more seriously, and kill the destructive competition between people who should be working together.

    "Not good Maternity leave benefits"

    StarStarStarStarStar

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

    Health plan benefits are good.

    Cons

Not very good maternity leave benefits for new moms. When other companies in Oregon are setting new standards including Intel and Nike, Mentor continues to have just 6 weeks for paid maternity leave.

    Advice to Management

Becoming a new parent is a huge undertaking, and for parents who are forced to take unpaid family leave, the situation becomes infinitely more challenging.

Wish the management gave more importance to maternity leave.

    Pros

Good benefits and great technical resources

    Cons

Senior management targets are not aligned with those on the ground. No one makes their individual target from an AM standpoint and yet the division GM makes his?!?

    Advice to Management

    Treat people with respect
