I have been working at Mentor Graphics

    Pros

Some good skilled employees. Benefits are decent

    Cons

No vacation policy anymore. So most people end up working long time with no vacation. Due to this many frustrated employee. Due to the revenue downgrades there are lot of politics and things are getting ugly. Not a happy work place that it used to be As many have mentioned, there is no career growth unless you are highly political. Mostly I will be a software engineer here forever.

    Advice to Management

Need to get handle on the politics before it destroys the company. Build career paths for employees.

I have been working at Mentor Graphics for more than a year

    Pros

Mentor has a lot of employee perks. Nice on site amenities. Nice campus.

    Cons

Not much in the way of career growth. Unless someone above you retires, there are just not a lot of promotions available. Employees here tend to stay for many years.

    Advice to Management

The buildings could do with makeovers.

I have been working at Mentor Graphics full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

-Lots of good people in the company, but it will depend on the team. -Very flexible work environment. Culture is very relaxed and no one is counting the clock....you're just entrusted to get your job done.

    Cons

-Not a lot of new blood which means not many new ideas. People stick around for a long time at Mentor....you need a balance of new folks with fresh thoughts and people that have been around while. -No career growth paths that I've seen anywhere. People get a job and there is no advancement. Can be very frustrating if you're ambitious. -Everything is silo'd into divisions with really no communication across divisions.

    Advice to Management

Provide opportunities for employees to explore career paths outside of their current role. Encourage collaboration between the different product lines and divisions. People want to create amazing/great products and sell them. There is talent in Mentor....enable it!

I have been working at Mentor Graphics full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    - offices (rather than cubes) - the work environment is not at all stressful. - Decent benefits (although it is likely better in other tech companies)

    Cons

-no career growth path - salaries are stagnant and bonuses non-existent - diminishing benefits (such as time off has been slashed to 2 weeks accrual NOT 24 days as advertised). - No encouragement for fresh ideas

    Advice to Management

    - Encourage new ideas for business and streamlined processes. - Hold the management (including yourselves) accountable when business isn't good.
