I worked at Merage Jewish Community Center of Orange County full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work if you live nearby and have young children to utilize the program services like preschool and after school care. Working there also gives you access to the amazing fitness facilities. In general the staff are really kind and caring people who are very pleasant to see and work with every day.

    Cons

Disagreed with leadership on some core management styles. Everything is extremely sales driven and programs tend to be expensive when compared to competitors (hard to sell).

    Advice to Management

Really focus on getting the staff to understand and believe in the value of the programs, would make it easier and more enjoyable for them to stand behind the product they are selling.

    Pros

I really enjoyed the company of my fellow staff members while at this job. It was also wonderful to get a change to meet so many local families!

    Cons

The management really treated staff (counselors) like children and there wasn't a lot of respect to go around. The salary was also quite terrible for the amount of hours and work that was put in. There was also a lot of clear favoritism.

    Advice to Management

Please treat counselors with the respect that they deserve! We all understand that the environment is high-stress but relationships amongst management and lower level staff could definitely be improved.

    Pros

Employee camaraderie is fun, as long as you don't care that you aren't one of the elite management team favorites

    Cons

Low pay, unequal treatment amongst employees resulting in thousands of dollar salary dscrepancies, hypocrisy

    Advice to Management

New CEO desperately needed to allow growth of the organization.

I worked at Merage Jewish Community Center of Orange County part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

For being a camp counselor at TALIT Nation. It was really easy, fun and low stress. The interview was a joke.

    Cons

Minimal pay for all of the kids you have to deal with.
The management does not know what they are doing.
They hire people not right for the job at all.

    Advice to Management

Pay the counselors more, and give better training.

    Pros

nice people, good pay, diverse, decent vacation time, good hours, many different areas to work interact and collaborate with, free gym and group exercise classes

    Cons

memebers can be entitled and rude, many things going on at once, unprofessional fitness staff, construction, parking, mandatory meetings, too cold

    Advice to Management

hire more professional and competent staff for the fitness center, keep the operating hours more consistent, control locker room/pool deck better
