    I worked at Meralco full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    The work is very challenging. You are exposed to the substation equipment which you usually troubleshoot and upgrade. The work is both mental and physical, therefore, you do not only need to be smart, but you also need to be physically fit.

    Cons

    The nature of work is not for long term. You are physically drained every now and then therefore, which is best for young engineers only.

    Pros

    Has a lot of Pros way back then, but when the new management took over, everythings all about sales and money. Welfare of low level employees out of picture.

    Cons

    If you are an employee who is driven and has high ambitions in life, don't aim to join this company. They only value the team leader position and up but the lower level employees, NO! There are a lot of other companies that can offer you job security with better opportunities. Low level potential employees are not well taken care of, no career growth and low paid salary.

    Advice to Management

    Have an open and fair opportunities for all employees. The performance base system is still not well implemented. High politics, palakasan system.

    1. MERALCO DOESN'T GIVE EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES TO EMPLOYEES AND APPLICANTS. Career opportunities and extensive trainings are only given for few new comers who got good grades in college and not to those who have proven themselves to be productive and efficient. Meralco offers higher starting salaries to employees who graduated from "popular" manila schools.

    2. It is an engineering company where engineers and technical persons are not well compensated. In fact, many of these technical guys just come and go. They resign from Meralco and join other companies local and abroad. Average salary of engineers working for more than 5 years could not even support the expenses of a small family with decent lifestyle. The company is more focused in providing good welfare and resources to athletes, who don't even contribute to its income rather than the technical and field persons who are the breadwinners.

    3. More often than not, regardless of individuals' competencies or abilities, opportunities for managers and high performance ratings are only confined to the close friends/acquaintances of the VPs and up.

    4. Powerless employees' union group - always agree with the managements' proposal for low salary increases (average of 1,500 increase in monthly salary per year). No efforts made to counter job lay-offs.

    5. Not a safe workplace - the company is reluctant to spend the required safety equipment and training for ALL field employees.

    Advice to Management

    Learn to focus and take care of your technical employees.

    * Good health benefits which are extended even to qualified dependents
    * Gym access
    * Shuttle service within the HQ and to several locations outside
    * Recreational events for employees
    * Great exposure to the electric power industry

    Cons

    * A tech company which doesn't value tech workers much
    * Severe salary disparity due to longevity
    * Severe salary disparity between management and rank-and-file groups
    * Bundling training to acquisitions are preferred over budgeted training

    Pros

    There are two opportunities each year where you could increase the salary. First is the CBA (negotiated by union) with an estimated amount of 1.5k-2k increase. Second is the performance based raise (estimated amount of 300-1200 per year)

    Cons

    Salaries and benefits packages for newly hired employees are not competitive compared with other companies. Tenure dictates the magnitude of your salary. Not based on performance or merit

    Advice to Management

    Please review the salary / compensation of the new (up to middle aged) employees with high potential (engineers, cpas, etc.). More young employees are leaving because of the "below par" compensation/ benefits they receive

    fun work environment, good health benefits (with own hospital) and other employee perks (e.g. shuttle service, loans), free parking and access to gym and sports facilities

    Cons

    upper class personnel are extremely rewarded, while middle to lower class employees are pushed to their limits to achieve the company goals without reaping any rewards at all
