I have been working at Merchants Tire full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Within individual stores, most of the time, they employees are close and become like family.

    Cons

Upper Management simply care about sales numbers, and could care less about the employees and the work environment. They also over expect employees to go above and beyond their job description for absolutely no recognition or reward.

    Advice to Management

Start spending the $500,000 you make from each store, to help the store. Listen to the employees that work in the shop when it comes to equipment they use everyday, in lieu of someone behind a desk thats never worked in the automotive industry finding the cheapest piece you can get a discount on, all because you buy 1000 to send to each store

I have been working at Merchants Tire full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits, there is a base salary if flat rate salary does not meet certain level.

    Cons

Long hours (required to clock 50 hrs per week). Low low low pay, really tough schedule for all employees including management.

    Advice to Management

When you find a good tech. find the way to pay him fairly so you can keep them for longer than a few months.

I have been working at Merchants Tire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The only thing good is the health care and co workers

    Cons

Everything is, hours, pay, the manger is the worse and they don't care about the employee's

    Advice to Management

Take more care of your workers and pay them more than what you are paying us now. Its not cutting it and remove the terrible manger

I worked at Merchants Tire full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The employee discount was nice, to an extent.

    Cons

The last facility I worked at was in Durham, NC; to say it was awful. The facility was disgusting to work in. Management will not send any assistance to a store that is woefully understaffed. Constantly hiring lazy, unmotivated, and unreliable employees was common. Be prepared to work 65 - 73 hour weeks. No concept of work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Promote or at least acknowledge employees who actually work hard. Hire decent employees; if that means you have to do reference checks than do it. At least ensure that your store managers have even a general understanding of your operating systems before putting them in a store. And lastly, would being closed on a Sunday really kill you?

    Pros

It is a good place to get some work experience

    Cons

The corporate atmosphere does not support their employees rather they throw them under the bus to please the customer. No loyalty to employees what so ever.

    Advice to Management

If you hire someone to do a job let them do it. Don't try to run the store over the phone. Support your lower management (store and service mangers) and allow them to cater the store to the customer base. A store in NC will not run the same as a store in DC.
