    Pros

It is a good place to get some work experience

    Cons

The corporate atmosphere does not support their employees rather they throw them under the bus to please the customer. No loyalty to employees what so ever.

    Advice to Management

If you hire someone to do a job let them do it. Don't try to run the store over the phone. Support your lower management (store and service mangers) and allow them to cater the store to the customer base. A store in NC will not run the same as a store in DC.

I have been working at Merchants Tire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The only thing good is the health care and co workers

    Cons

Everything is, hours, pay, the manger is the worse and they don't care about the employee's

    Advice to Management

Take more care of your workers and pay them more than what you are paying us now. Its not cutting it and remove the terrible manger

I worked at Merchants Tire full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The employee discount was nice, to an extent.

    Cons

The last facility I worked at was in Durham, NC; to say it was awful. The facility was disgusting to work in. Management will not send any assistance to a store that is woefully understaffed. Constantly hiring lazy, unmotivated, and unreliable employees was common. Be prepared to work 65 - 73 hour weeks. No concept of work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Promote or at least acknowledge employees who actually work hard. Hire decent employees; if that means you have to do reference checks than do it. At least ensure that your store managers have even a general understanding of your operating systems before putting them in a store. And lastly, would being closed on a Sunday really kill you?

    Pros

Best thing about company the health care benefits, pay was good for industry but came with a price.

    Cons

Work with a life balance did not exists, salary based off 55 hours, normal week 65 with at least on week a month over 80...you were shunned about taking your scheduled days off...job constantly threatened no matter how dedicated and strived to meet the many goals and expectations you were ALWAYS felt at risk of loosing your job. Work schedule and store hours were considered a " guide " by upper management for store managers and technicians...

    Advice to Management

Respect the performers on the front line, do away with the daily threats regarding job security and use company policy has a " guide " when considering termination of top performers that give it there all in addition ooking out for struggling team mate...if not then continue to loose " honest " people while continuing creating a culture of " liars " being creating by you the upper management.

    Pros

I made a lot of money as as Service Manager and then a Store Manager for Merchants Tire.

The PTO and vacation package for management was above average.

    Cons

Do not expect to have a life outside of Merchants. As a Manager they expect you to work between 65 and 75 hours per week. If you are short staffed which most stores are you will be expected to work open to close 7 days a week.

God help you if your store actually becomes profitable they will send in the auditor and the Spanish Inquisition will look like childs play.

Expect to do some sort of full on inventory at least every other month tieing up the majority of your Sunday.

All hands on deck (every employee working) during their "Super Sales" that laughingly last up to 4 weeks at a time and are at least once a month.

You better be able to sell the flavor of the month if not be prepared for 6am conferance calls.

Expect everything to change corporate people, store level people your pay rate and bonus structure. The first year I was there my pay structure changed 9 times most of the time I had no idea how they calculated my pay.

If you are a manager watch your P&L they hid a corporate employee on my payrole to the tune of $5000.00 per month and that cost me a few bonuses.

Be prepared to get no advertising support and to literally have your job threatened every day no matter what your KPI looks like.

    Advice to Management

Listen to those in the trenches. Emplement a plan and keep it in place long enough to work. Value each and every employee.

I worked at Merchants Tire full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Discounts on tires and every service and parts
    pay

    Cons

Very strict on rules and paperwork... spend more time on paper work than working on car
Makes you feel rushed and takes longer than expected
one mistake is an automatic write up, no verbal warnings or chances

    Advice to Management

No one is perfect, stop looking for perfect people... everyone makes mistakes, the person who made the small mistake should fix it for free... not write them up on a small mistake.
