I worked at Mercure Hotels part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very flexible hours and were mostly good at giving time off when asked.

    Cons

Split shifts were awful, 6x a week. Have worked in numerous hospitality jobs and never had to do such ridiculous hours.

    Advice to Management

    Communicate with staff more.

I worked at Mercure Hotels part-time

    Pros

Easy to learn, can have fun shifts, learn a lot of life lessons about hard work and time management, free food

    Cons

Can also have stressful shifts, illegal hours, ie 11pm finish and 7am start, don't listen to availability, unorganised management staff

    Advice to Management

Stick to the law, especially regarding part timers at school under 18 because getting home at 12am and getting up at 6am is illegal

I worked at Mercure Hotels full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people I worked with got me through each day. They really were the most diverse, hard-working people I have ever worked with! Only for them I don't think I would have lasted as long as I did! I recently went back to the hotel I worked in and there was only one staff member still there from the year I was. And I can tell you it is because of the management!

    Cons

There is so much room for opportunity, and growth. But the management here don't want to hear opinions. The owner of Mercure popped in once while I was there and we had to treat him like a king. Which I wouldn't mind, if he also had respect for those working for him. He was AWFUL. Clicking his fingers and shouting across the dining room. No wonder management are so bad when this is what they have to deal with!

    Advice to Management

A suggestion box possibly? Even to have someone listen to what the staff think should change, even once a month! It's usually the floor staff who have the best ideas as they see what is going on day-to-day compared with the GM and manager who are sat in an office behind a desk pulling everyone's strings.

    Pros

    Challenging requirements
That's is all, there's nothing else positive about my experience working there

    Cons

Strict Uniform - Touches wrist, skirt, heels
Strict Hair regulations - None on face, bun,
Expected to not have toilet breaks
Expected to work overtime without pay
Management repeatedly treat staff like slaves

    Advice to Management

Learn to treat your staff like humans, strict regulations don't build a successful work environment
