I have been working at Mercy Health System full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The mission to serve the poor and underserved. The people you work with every day. The work is good, more challenging in the past, but still okay.

    Cons

Being part of a larger organization that really does not appear to have a clue about this System or the market it serves. In an effort to reduced the bottom line especially in a support area (where I work) when colleagues leave positions, often their work is just distributed to other colleagues with no consideration for the amount of work the remaining colleague already has. Talk alot about work-life balance, but really do not practice what they preach.

    Advice to Management

Better communication in some areas, much less communicaiton in other areas. Limit the number of meetings scheduled to allow colleagues to actually do their job.

    Pros

Wonderful co-workers, are very self giving to both patients and each other.

    Cons

Clinic managers need to be educated, honest and noble.

    Advice to Management

Should not just take the (not necessarily educated or trained) managers word for issues. Both sides should be heard! The Employess's should be treated as though they are just as important as the "numerous bosses." Way to heavy on the management side. Need to pay better.

I worked at Mercy Health System as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Providing patient care and a modicum of autonomy in which to do it were given here.

    Cons

As a per diem employee getting cancelled for a shift--a mere ten minutes prior to that shift--was not uncommon.

    Advice to Management

Listen to all of your employees for feedback-not just administrators.

    Pros

The floor that I was on didn't have to float , that may be different now. It was a closed unit.

    Cons

It was physically demanding. You had to work 8 hours days and every other weekend. Hard to get a decent raise in pay.
