Manager

How to deal with horrid bosses? I work at a rehabilitation center. I'm the only manager. I mean reports, referrals, calls, charges, hospital, data input, tech duties, scheduling (3 seperate schedules to be done. Including handwritten, electronic, and excel). Not to mention when a therapist comes in (we have 6-9 currently), I have to drop everything i am doing and assist them. On top of all my daily duties. I'm not allowed to miss work. Even came into work sick more than once with fever.

you will be expected to do the work of at least 3 other people at best you can expect a 2% increase each year and no cost of living adjustment Used to have one of the best insurances out there but not it's middle of the road at best Upper management doesn't listen to the 'boots on the ground'

    Pros

Culture. Everyone is so welcoming and goes out of their way to help others. Employees are proactive to help one another. Corporate and upper management take interest in all levels of employment and strive to make everyone feel equally valued and important. Yearly reviews give you a chance to express what you need from management and really let your voice be heard

    Cons

Not for profit pay for same work as for profit hospital systems. Remote co-workers find it difficult to connect personally to mission because activities are done on campus.

    Cons

Many times work understaffed. Seems to be a huge disconnect between staff and upper management.

    Clueless management

Feb 21, 2012 - Registered Nurse in Springfield, MO

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Despite management issues, the employees are wonderful to work with and they truely care about delivering high-quality patient care.

    Cons

Upper management appears to be more concerned with self-agrandizement than they are with doing the right thing. Management takes it's employees for granted with a 'you can leave if you don't like it' attitude.

BEWARE- Made me hate working in healthcare, my chosen career I worked very hard to earn a diploma for at the age of 30.

    Pros

The co-workers will keep you going and are some of the nicest people on earth. They always have each others backs and you will make new lifelong best friends and that is the ONLY reason I gave them more than 1 star.

    Cons

Most Mid and upper management along with HR are a terrible joke at this facility. Hiring a department manager with zero experience in management or in how a department needs to be ran is never a good idea, keeping them in a leadership position is suicide! They are much too busy having meetings with each other to do their jobs or work in their departments to the point they shove their work off ( right down to managing their workers) off on select department coworkers with little to zero experience as a department leader. With the exception of a select few departments, management can not be bothered to even help out by moving a pen to lessen work load much less pull a shift. No communication. At all. One department has lost more than half of their staff in the last 6 months all due to their manager.

Lots of changes - not always explainable

    Pros

They do try to focus on human values Deptending on dept. - many are good about working with employees who need time off or alternate arrangements If you have skills that are valuable, they are likely to keep you Because it is a growing organization, there is a chance to provide input into how to do things

    Cons

Growing pains, compounded by touch economic times create a fairly chaotic work environment, with a lot of change and not a lot of processes in place Surprising level of bad (negative, angry, etc.) behavior tolerated from some management level employees (given the non-profit humanitarian values posted) Lack of a clear vision from upper management

    It's a job

    Jan 2, 2020 - Registered Nurse, BSN
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

I work with a great group of nurses in my department. The charge nurse supports and backs up the nursing staff. She's a buffer between the nurses and upper management.

    Cons

There has been recent turnover of upper management of the department. The director is not supportive of the staff, they do not follow through with issues brought to their attention and they retaliate when questionable matters are taken to HR . The health insurance is expensive.
