I worked at Meredith Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Digital and Marketing teams in NY were incredibly welcoming and warm (the only reason I gave 2-stars), made good friends in the NY office, work was painfully easy

    Cons

Very low salary, no autonomy in the accounts I managed, chauvinist boys-club culture from Seattle runs digital operations, misogynistic men were placed in a position to dictate digital content and direction for WOMEN'S brands (Martha Stewart, etc.), to much executive self-importance, very poor leadership overall and in my particular team, no road to success for employees

Due to a grossly lacking leadership structure within teams, individuals empower themselves to take on imaginary leadership roles, unchecked. Whether intentional or unintentional it creates a horribly tense and hostile work environment which oozes with toxicity and distaste amongst colleagues. Individuals that should partners are made to be adversaries as opposed to partners. It should never be the case where a party is held because an individual, who is known to be incredibly vile, goes on leave.

    Advice to Management

Hire a more diverse leadership team that is actually representative of the brands the company owns. Stop trying to relive your frat days from 30 years ago and empower stakeholders to succeed.

I worked at Meredith Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Clean work environment, good benefits, pay for cell phone plan

    Cons

Print leads everything here. The websites are turned into glorified print subscription drivers instead of innovative digital standalone properties. Innovation and creativity in digital is bragged about but the only thing the company has going for them is their data. Staff comp plans and payout brackets are unattainable. Unrealistic growth is expected with no real strategy on how to achieve it. Mediocre talent is celebrated. People with ideas and creativity are stifled and told to conform to the "Meredith way".

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach. You say Meredith is all about Women, and yet there are no women in upper management. There are no leaders for your predominantly female staff to look up to as mentors.

Take a look at what the industry is actually doing in digital instead of trying to prop up stale digital offerings with mediocre marketing materials.

I have been working at Meredith Corporation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

As with most media companies... there are a lot of people that work really hard, on tight deadlines. These are the lifeblood of a television station

    Cons

As with most media companies... upper management is disconnected from the people that do the daily work, and would rather examine numbers that can cut costs rather than reward success.

    Advice to Management

The New Upper Management at this location bullies people who challenge his authority. They eventually leave or quit, and he looks to hire someone he can push around.

    Pros

#1 local morning show, executives are nice

    Cons

Every man for himself, high turnover, producers are young and catty, everyone is or seems miserable, pay is awful, opportunities for advancement and growth were slim.

    Pros

Lots of great co-workers. Good benefits - but not communicated well. Nice office space. Interesting industry. Work Life Balance.

    Cons

The senior leadership are all men, leading a woman-focused company - disconnect?? Where are the women? Women in leadership are said to be "difficult" or "demanding" or "whiny" - huh, never heard men described like that! Leadership is completely disconnected from employees. No raises in over 2 years is the norm. Cut after cut after cut. HR is not visible in any way - who is the HR leader?

    Advice to Management

    Invest. In. Your. Employees.

I worked at Meredith Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They give their employees higher salaries and decent benefits.

    Cons

They are constantly reworking departments and laying off good workers.

    Advice to Management

They shouldn't be so quick to lay off good employees who work hard for the company. They should consider offering alternative positions within the company.

    Pros

Most people at Meredith are very friendly. You'll get close to a few people you work with an then come across them again a few years later working together again. Really good work/life balance but that's essential since many employees have spouses and kids...although sometimes there's a little TOO much work/life balance cause you always hear someone fighting with their boyfriend on the phone at their desk or whispering frantically to their friends on the phone (yes we can hear you). Very organized events, beauty sales, free sandwiches sometimes. Summer Fridays, understanding about holiday hours. Meredith also carries many household names.

    Cons

So many meetings that could have easily been
A phone call or email. Hard to get promoted, but working for the right department can help you get promoted somewhere else.

    Advice to Management

Small changes to the digital brands can make a big difference in gaining make traffic. Get over the egos and let the people who know what they're doing take the reigns- not some executive who just learned how to use Facebook last year. Clunky ads and tacky homepages .....its 2016!
