I worked at Meridian Public School District full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Students are (mostly) wonderful, curriculum is great

    Cons

This is probably the most disorganized school I have ever worked in. Teachers are leaving on a weekly basis, causing upsets with students. Staff members are not respected and treated as they are expendable. Administration and management does not take the time to get to know staff members, problem-solve, and will replace a teacher at a moment's notice. There is a lot of dysfunction, especially for special ed services, that definitely borders on the edge of being illegal. (Kids not getting services, etc.)

    Advice to Management

Don't be so shady! Respect your team members, and become more organized. Administration may just need a complete overhaul.

I worked at Meridian Public School District full-time

    Pros

They have some good ideas they just do not know how to link data to anything else.
    Enjoyed my co-workers.

    Cons

Administration has no respect for teachers. Horrible work environment, teachers on trial, threatening environment. Teachers treated like they are replaceable and fired on a weekly basis.

    Advice to Management

I don't know one person at your school who is not currently seeking other employment. You need to value your staff.

I worked at Meridian Public School District full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There was great diversity and friendly people. Very student involved and student friendly.

    Cons

No micromanagement. Huge turnover rate without cause. Minimal communication and support from administration.

    Advice to Management

Before you let a teacher go, allow them the opportunity to improve if there are issues. Avoid high turnover rates. It looks really bad.

I have been working at Meridian Public School District full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The best thing about working in this school district is that same for many other districts across the nation -- insurance benefits and time-off.

    Cons

The worse thing about teaching here (or in MS period) is the low pay. Next to the low pay, the new discipline policy needs a little work. There is a high staff turn-over rate due to the pressures of high-stakes testing and student discipline.

    Advice to Management

Consider more training for teachers. Consider using consultants/ trainers that have actually been inside a classroom within the past few years... not 20 years ago. The students have changed since then. Advice given for today's classrooms need to fit today's students.
