    Pros

Great people, great culture, overall a place that I don't mind going to work in the morning. Lots of employee events and perks.

    Cons

Downsides? I don't really have any that I can think of..

    Advice to Management

    Doing a great job.

I have been working at Merkley + Partners full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great company culture with chili cookoffs, super bowl parties, and valentine's for vets to give back. The people genuinely care and are supportive of one another. Overall it's a great place to learn and grow!

    Cons

There can be long hours sometimes, but that's to be expected in advertising.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

I worked at Merkley + Partners (Less than a year)

    Pros

A few perks like popcorn on Wednesdays and added vacation in the summer (though not everyone uses it)

    Cons

Unless you have a great mentor or manager to talk to, it is hard to voice your concerns. Work/Life balance is not great. The people who have worked there for a longer amount of time are very cliquey and it is hard to feel welcome.

    Advice to Management

Focus on training and guidance more

    I worked at Merkley + Partners full-time

    Pros

Entrepreneurial, liberal holiday schedule. Free popcorn.

    Cons

Upper management cliquish and out of touch with day-to-day concerns of agency. Rapid turnover of staff creates atmosphere of constant turmoil. The agency's focus is on recruiting recent graduates to use as low-paid drones who leave once they learn there's little opportunity for recognition or financial reward. Archaic old-school production practices are rigged to enrich agency. There's no clear structure or path for advancement. Infrequent performance-related increases. A career journey, rather than the destination.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the folks who run the day-to-day agency (who still remain).

I worked at Merkley + Partners full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

M+P, due to being a small agency with a heavy focus on the creative department, other teams must be very versatile therefore team members get great experience.

    Cons

The low pay paired with the lack of advancement opportunities makes it challenging to stay for an extended period.

    Advice to Management

Work towards allowing more growth and don't be afraid to fight for an employee.

I worked at Merkley + Partners full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Great community overall
    - Perfect place to start in media (assistants learn traditional and digital & are very hands on)
    - Great clients
    - Wonderful exposure to the industry
    - Array of experience
    - Welcoming culture
    - Large teams
    - Great location in the city
    - Contrary to some of the other reviews, I believe HR really works hard to help others and make sure all questions are answered with the utmost respect.

    Cons

    - On-boarding is very fast pace and minimal (just not enough time in one day)
    - Less opportunity (small agency)
    - Creative focused company
    - Long hours (like most)
    - A lot of learning in little time
    - A little more divided in workloads
    - Less time face-to-face with upper management

    Advice to Management

Get to know your team. You are great to work with, however, they should not only see you when you have bad news to deliver. It would be nice to see you at some of the internal weekly team meetings or outings.

    Pros

Great community. Smart people. Decent work/life balance (during non-pitch times). They do a lot of company meetings, parties, happy hours, etc to try to keep moral up.

    Cons

Some politics (like any agency). New ideas are not always met with open arms.

I have been working at Merkley + Partners full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Merkley+Partners is a mid-sized agency which gives a "small town" feel. There are about 1 and a half floors of the building which makes the agency feel separated. The 12th floor is nice and feels a more cultured while the 11th floor feels like a warehouse. The creatives and part of the media team sits together on 11 with constant loud music and loud talking which can be distracting but 12th floor is more professional. The people are friendly for the most part. The agency has the Mercedes-Benz account, Armor All, Florida Natural Orange Juice, Sun Products, Teva and a few smaller accounts. A lot of agency perks such as breakfast on Fridays, popcorn Wednesdays, happy hours, celebrations, etc. Lots of excitement to win new business, always feel involved when new business pitches to a client. Really great place to begin working right out of college. The account and media teams are very young which provides a more comfortable culture for newbies who are new and nervous.

    Cons

The original Mercedes-Benz account and media teams were very cliquey and made newcomers feel excluded. Thankfully, turnover has brought in a newer team so hopefully the new teams make people feel more welcome. The training at Merkley is very minimal. No one has time to train. When a new AAE, AE or media member starts, they are not given much of an introduction to the system and expected to jump in. Not a lot of room for mistake, not very forgiving even when starting out. Salaries are not ideal. You have to approach for a raise/promotion. Not bad management but not great management. A lot of managers have a "sink or swim" attitude with their employees. Office management and HR need to be trained - often come off as petty and unwelcoming. HR turned away a crying employee to finish entering paperwork. I was appalled to hear this, but wasn't surprised from my own experience. In passing, HR smiles and says hi but when you stop by to ask a question or need something, they act very impatient. Have been through many understaffed time periods in which management gives you a passive pat on the back. A small bonus would have been nice. Or maybe a personal day. No formal employee reviews whatsoever. You will never know how you are doing until you sit down with management and formally ask.

    Advice to Management

Acknowledge employees for their work. Give raises or bonuses when you can. Encourage employees to take a personal day when they have had a long week - at least it shows you want to encourage a healthy work-life balance.

I have been working at Merkley + Partners full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people at Merkley are hard working, dedicated and passionate about producing solid work. I'm proud to work alongside such great people.

    Cons

Would like to see some type of flex time options. But, overall
Merkley has a good work/life balance.
