    I have been working at Merle Norman part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    I like that you get to interact with customers on a daily basis.
    It has given me a little experience on what a simple receptionist job would be.

    Cons

    Each location is individually owned, so the rules are a little different at each one. I work at 3 locations owned by the same person. Rules are constantly changing for the owner's benefit without much thought to the employees (or so it seems).

    Doing makeovers and interacting with great customers

    Cons

    I wish I had never wasted my time working here. I did not ever feel like my hard work was valued, appreciated, or respected.

    Advice to Management

    Respect your employees. Upper management needs to listen when approached with issues and actually work towards resolving them.

    Pros

    Depending on who your studio owner is, you can have an awesome time. My studio owner is absolutely amazing, very flexible with schedules, and tries her best to include everyone in decisions. Love working for a company with independently owned studio, more personal and fun! Getting to build personal relationships with clients is amazing too. The clientele here is (for the most part) very nice and fun, unlike most retail atmospheres.

    Cons

    There is a bit of downtime, but you can always clean the studio, work on homework if you're in school, read a book, etc. That's really the only semi-negative thing and it isn't bad at all.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up, great environment, excellent company!

    I worked at Merle Norman part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    The owner and manager I worked for did a great job training me. The store owner was all about customer service and product knowledge. She trained me that products will sell themselves when you are very familiar with those products and know how to present them to your clientele.

    Cons

    Merle Norman has great products, however it seemed we were always waiting to get our versions of popular products available to sell.

    Advice to Management

    I can only speak for my manager and my experience as I never worked at a different franchise, but my advice would be keep up the good work! I loved working with her, and she taught me things I have carried with me that makes me great at my current job.

    I worked at Merle Norman full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good Products (surprised me). They were even better than department store brands.
    Flexible hours. No night shift.
    Products last a long time.
    You can wear anything to work.
    Low pressure.

    Cons

    No one really knows about this brand unless they've used it.
    NO TRAINING AT ALL! I was just handed a really thick book which was out of date.
    The owner of this store did n't know anything about the products and she's owned it for about 20 years.
    Most people under 50 don't know about this line, it's thought of as being for old ladies.
    You're forced to sell new products to customers who just want to stay with the old ones. And, because they don't discontinue the old ones it makes it really very hard to switch them.
    Unless you want to own a store, there's no room for advancement. (I hear the owners don't make much money)

    Advice to Management

    Train your people better. You've got great products, it's a shame more people don't know about them.
    Make sure all of your store look more uniform like other places (Sephora, ulta)

    H.O management. This company is being run into the ground BY current owner AND WIFE. SHAME.

    Advice to Management

    Go back to morals Merle built the company with. You new owners are greedy do only for friends and yourselves. You don"t show or give special treatment to select studio owners . We are all in this to make a success of our business. You should be there to offer everything possible to all studio owners. That is how this company was built I believe Merle Norman is very disgusted at what is going on with in her company.

    Pros

    Great coworkers, management
    Flexible schedule
    Most of the customers are a joy to work with
    Perfect place to start out and gain experience in the cosmetics industry
    Lots of makeovers and facials!

    Cons

    It is hard to handle multiple customers at once when you are working alone
    Full-time hours are not available at the studio I work at
    Popular products are discontinued and replaced with something different, usually unlike the product, and the customers do not like the product changes
