I have been working at Merlin Entertainments full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great co-workers 40 Merlin tickets to any attraction around the world after working for a year You get to learn a lot and depending on your manager, you can try other roles in the attraction When management isn’t busy with other things, they do host great Christmas and summer parties. Though, expect your Xmas party in April or May and summer party in September or October. Management does provide free food during peak weeks, like spring break and the holidays.

    Cons

Pay is very low, part time employees only make a dollar more than full time ones and full timers have a lot more pressure put on them. Management favors certain employees over others No connection between educators and displays, this is done on purpose Very high turnover and management doesn’t seem to care Rarely is the attraction fully staffed meaning more work and stress for everyone else Hardly any incentives given to employees Mangers spend more time telling you what you did wrong rather than what you did right.

I worked at Merlin Entertainments part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Somewhat of a flexible schedule, meet a lot of celebrities, and free tickets (after being employed for x amount of time)

    Cons

Horrible Management, high turnover, unsanitary facility, no support from management, favoritism, extremely low pay, some managers were prejudice and judgemental, unclear policies and rules. Management watches your every move on camera. Guests tend to take their anger and frustration out on workers about issues in the facility we have no control over.

I worked at Merlin Entertainments for less than a year

    Pros

I worked with a handful of passionate, client-focused operations workers who made the place bearable. The "Displays" team also does good work maintaining the health of the animals in attractive exhibits. Many of the animals are really cool.

    Cons

I can only speak with certainty about SEA LIFE Minnesota Aquarium at the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN, although some issues may span the corporation. The aquarium is run like most for-profit entertainment attractions... There are scores of part-time operations workers who turn over very quickly, few except managers can expect to receive 40 hours per week, and there is little growth potential. These characteristics are common across service jobs, but the culture and management at this SEA LIFE aquarium were particularly toxic. Although all staff were encouraged to exemplify "Merlin's Way" to team members and customers, most understood it was a ruse. Other SEA LIFE aquariums may very well have healthy cultures, but Minnesota's was soured by lazy, immature, and even abusive upper management. As a result, there was little trust or teamwork between divisions. Every longtime employee I spoke to during my six months (in between college semesters) disliked their job. Many of these individuals relied on friendships strengthened my mutual abhorrence of the organization.

I have been working at Merlin Entertainments part-time for more than a year

    Pros

the aquarium itself is nice, and if you enjoy marine animals you'll get to see them, but it's still a customer service job.

    Cons

pay starts at $9.25 with no opportunity for upward mobility. the aquarium is located in the mall of america, where most other employers will pay $10 and up for a very similar job. no one is full time except managers because they don't want to give us health insurance. there is an extremely high turnover rate of employees, due to the poor work conditions, low pay, and crappy management. most people hired will quit or stop showing up within two weeks because they find something better or just don't care, leading to an understaffed and overworked supervisor team and unhappy guests. employee training is shoddy, with newbies training other newbies. communication between departments is abysmal. this company also has a habit of promoting newer people who don't know what they are doing and can become whatever the upper management wants, instead of employees who have been around longer and are more qualified to be managers. I've seen many dear friends and co-workers lose the love they once had for this place and end up quitting because nothing ever changes.
