I worked at Merlin Entertainments full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

you get free tickets to other Merlin-owned attractions but even that is limited. compared to Disney or Universal, it's not nearly as good but still a nice perk when gets are in from out of town

    Cons

terrible I.T. at the winter haven, florida location. laughably bad for a billion dollar huge company. I mean AWFUL. a few "sacred cows" who don't do their jobs well or have awful attitudes but the company is terrified to lose them. ALSO, notice how many recent 5 star reviews from CURRENT H.R. and Management level folks came into glassdoor. gee, almost seems like a plan to boost their poor ratings. with Disney and universal paying $15 an hour, the struggle to attract semi-competent folks is only going to get worse

    Pros

Fun environment if you enjoy children.

    Cons

Poor leadership training for mid level management. Most senior managers only looking to jump to the next role instead of developing their staff.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Merlin Entertainments full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Some great (if under invested in) brands - Some really good people at all levels of the business - Merlin Magic Pass is a nice perk

    Cons

    - Marketing decisions are driven by what the CEO wants (or what people think he will dislike least). It can feel like you are stuck in the 1990s - TV is good, digital is bad, and you don't want to cross the CEO because his opinion rules. - Cost driven culture, with endless rounds of redundancies and cost cutting in recent years have hammered morale and impacted on what guests get rewarded with. You only have to look on TripAdvisor or Yelp at many of the sites to realise that customer experience doesn't come first, it is about making money and keeping costs low. - Working in the US has been ok because we are that bit further away from Head Office, but in other teams there is a constant feeling of marketing being under scrutiny. Senior marketers dread the annual marketing presentation to the CEO and members of the board because it is like a scene from The Hunger Games...every year at least one Marketing Director seems to exit the business after it.

"Worst Company Ever - Racist and Sexist"

    Pros

    Amount of Attractions is substantial

    Cons

They are very racist and sexist there, also you hardly get promoted on hard work. It is usually who know who and who like who more. Worst company I spent my time working for.

    Pros

company is 2nd largest entertainment company in the world. it owns LEGOLAND theme parks, Madame tussauds wax attraction, Sea Life aquariums, LEGOLAND Discovery Centers and more. if you are young, single, and willing to move around the country or around the world, there is room to move up.

    Cons

so much bureaucratic b.s. your best chance to move up is to be willing to move all around the globe (we have locations in a dozen or so countries),. you must also be willing to work constantly when not scheduled. getting that company cell phone means say goodbye to ever really being off the clock. lots of bureaucracy and excuses before you can get things fixed. simple things.

    Pros

Many opportunities to move up. Open to ideas. A large group of different personalities.

    Cons

Tons of clicks or groups that hurt others that are working hard. Dont like to learn or see both sides of the story. Will undermine you, and lose faith in your ability. Doesn't keep consistent policies between different attractions.

I worked at Merlin Entertainments full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It's a fun job, you meet people from all over the world. There are many creative and interesting people employed here. But......

    Cons

The US operations are run like a high school where you need to be part of the in crowd to get ahead. Promotions are not determined by how you do your job. They are determined by who you are related to, friends with or married to. Just look at the senior managers instagrams and Facebook posts. The people you see in the pictures have a future with Merlin. There are many hardworking people working here that are overlooked because the divisional team doesn't like them. The company is expanding fast and cannibalizing their audience. How many wax museums can one country support? If you are working here for more than a year without a promotion I advise you to get out now. It's not going to happen.
