I worked at Merlin Entertainments part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Paid to act International company They give you a Merlin card which is good for visits at any Merlin attraction

    Cons

Low pay, super overworked. Many people at my location worked 6, 12 hour days a week in December. (And then management told me to remind the rest of the actors it wasn't actually a twelve hour day because we had two lunch breaks (as required by LAW), even though we were still there 12 hours. They were worried about opening fast rather than opening well, and that seemed to be a motto for them - just get people through and manage rather than do a good job running the place Hours of operation kept changing Management kept changing Whole location was perpetually understaffed. Great for overtime, not great for anything else. Didn't have a plan on how to keep actor area clean. Or cheerful enough to make you not hate everything. Morale was constantly low because there was no sunlight and we were working long hours in a dimly lit, black walled corridor. Costumes didn't get washed for 6 months. At our location things were so bad almost the ENTIRE acting team was ready to strike (36 out of 38 people). HR was brought in and told me to not bite the hand that feeds you. I reminded her we weren't getting the ten minute breaks as required by law and people had been forced to work, off the clock, on their lunch break. Insane amount of turnover, at every level at the local location UK management completely out of touch with what is happening at local level. Opened without really making sure management knew labor laws. And they broke them frequently because they didn't know them. We didn't have a local HR person for months. Didn't do much to protect their workers from drunk and unruled guests, putting workers in danger. Promotions often make no sense.

Your working in a fun environment where kids love your place especially lego fanatics, so their excitement would get anyone happy

    Cons

Long hours and weekend work for weekly reporting, many late nights and self directions as corporate management in London. The management appeared never happy with results

I have been working at Merlin Entertainments full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Pretty decent benefits. You get Merlin passes which can be a pro if you're going out of the U.S. since most attractions here are pretty cheesy and way overpriced.

    Cons

Management is horrible in this company with a 40%+ turnover rate for office/management/salaried employees. This translates into low pay with the expectation of long hours unless you're hourly. There is no work/home balance. Management hires friends making it difficult to get any type of appreciation if you're not in the click. Upper management is all from the UK which also makes them having double standards. Any employee smart enough to give notice and leave is treated like a leper with management sticking their heads in the sand pretending everything is alright. I have never worked at a company before where they do not give you the tools to succeed. They are disorganized with unqualified managers in many positions.

    Pros

Most coworkers are wonderful people and fun to work with. Work is not difficult to learn to do well. Free passes after 6 weeks of employment.

    Cons

Hourly wage is on the lower end and raises don't seem to be a thing. Many long hours of standing with very few breaks. Management seem to have limited understanding of what the workers' experience is like. Training is minimal (to put it mildly) so new hires need to rely on more experienced coworkers to clue them in on what they need to know. Management gives lip service to seeking employee input but is virtually unresponsive and no changes are implemented. Dress code is very rigid. There is an atmosphere of paranoia because 5 small mistakes in 3 months can lead to disciplinary action-- wearing the wrong color of socks too many times could theoretically lead to being fired, for example, regardless of actual job performance. Company is extremely money-oriented, with very, very close monitoring of every employee who handles cash. . . more than I ever saw in years of employment in various cashier/clerk roles.

    Pros

Friendly and inclusive finance team that socialise together, and help each other out when time permits. It's for this reason that I give an overall score of 2 stars rather than 1.

    Cons

The accounting system is Sage Line 500 which is not adequate for a multi-site, multi-operational global FTSE100 business. Hyperion is used for consolidated reporting, which is updated via a spreadsheet upload. Consequently there is heavy reliance on spreadsheets and manual processes, and a lot of room for human error. Inter-company transactions are particularly manual and time-consuming. Manual invoices are raised in Excel between entities with no real controls other than clearing the inter-company matching report during month end. A lot of time is spent producing a draft P&L down to EBITDA in Excel before the period has ended. More time is then spent providing reasons for variances that may not materialise, rather than working on the actual figures. This inevitably leads to long hours trying to close the P&L by working day 5, and compromises the accuracy of the accounts. Actual figures will likely be adjusted for any variances to the draft figures regardless of the correct accounting treatment. Senior management do not value their staff at all, and seemingly have no idea what is involved in meeting all their demands. There is no appreciation for unpaid overtime, the attitude being that if you have worked late it's because you have done something wrong. Flexitime is not permitted. Health and safety within the office is non-existent. In general, the company does not seem willing to invest a penny unless they believe it will directly drive sales.

I worked at Merlin Entertainments full-time for more than a year

    Pros

NONE. The pay seems good but don’t be fooled. You will be working 9 hour days MINIMUM

    Cons

Chaotic, cliquey, chastising. Absolutely no on board processing, people there were rude and little to no management support. People tend to work LONG hours, leaving on time is frowned upon. Wouldn’t recommend working there to anyone. management are egotistical and aggressive. Not a healthy environment.
