I have been working at Merrill Gardens part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pace is often brisk, but the care the seniors receive is the best available, in part by a competent staff to assist them.

    Cons

Unfortunately, some of the seniors pass on to their reward and are remembered fondly in their time as our favored residents.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the caring, service motivated attitude, not only with the employees, but the residents themselves as we all benefit from a happier lifestyle.

    Pros

I really enjoyed the culture of respect and generosity among staff and residents. I also appreciated being mentored by my boss.

    Cons

Not a whole lot of opportunity for growth. I had to leave the company to get a promotion after two + years of hard work and dedication.

Competitive pay and Benefits, Good work schedule, lovely atmosphere, Fellow employees are friendly and easy to work with. Approve of CEO.

    Cons

Break down of communication with GM and Management. Getting different directions from home office and your GM, makes it difficult to figure out who's directions you should follow.

    Pros

MG is a strong company, family run, and has a good reputation in the senior housing industry. They pay fairly compared to other companies and have excellent tools for training management staff in the communities.
Great compensation for marketing and community relations if you are hungry and willing to work.
Communities are run well and it is a privilege to be chosen to work for them.

    Cons

There is turnover, but the senior housing industry tends to be a bit incestual anyway. Recognition for accomplishments is not always recognized outside of occupancy percentages. Getting around the politics is a challenge sometimes and communication is not up to par between Corporate positions and the communities.

    Advice to Management

Spend more effort on implementing the MG cares program towards employees. Recognize accomplishments even when it might not be reflected in numbers. Eliminate sarcasm that retards good communication. Spend the time and energy to "mentor" current employees into leadership postions. Trust your leaders.

I worked at Merrill Gardens part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The residence made it all worth it. They made it very rewarding to meet and experience the seniors with all there history. Very fun and rewarding! The staff and residence for the most part were very amiable and accommodating.

    Cons

One of the drawbacks is residence leaving unexpectedly if you get my drift. They had a few discrepancies in regard to rules ,regulation and policies. They tried to run a very tight ship.

    Advice to Management

Show more concern, leniency and fairness for employee's welfare in regards to policies.
