    Pros

Great company culture. Willing to guide me and help me develop key competencies to help do the job.

    Cons

    Its too early to say.

I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Many departments have uncapped incentives. If able to find a good team with a solid management chain, the work week is decently professional. Large campus with continuous opportunities to advance.

    Cons

Micro-managed. Merrill Lynch is slowly adopting all of Bank Of America's HR policies, so don't expect any courtesies. Treated like a number, instead of a person. Layers upon layers of middle management.

    Advice to Management

Stop choking the American will to excel and perform with micro-management policies. Leave HR out of the day-to-day of individual departments/divisions.

I have been working at Merrill Lynch (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits and insurance packages, the ability to move up in the company

    Cons

Base Salary--given amount of work base salary should be + instead of giving higher commission

I worked at Merrill Lynch full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is a lot of freedom at Merrill Lynch, you are not micromanaged
The company will pay for licenses like series 7 and 66 and if you get approved they will pay for Six Sigma licensing

    Cons

If you get the wrong manager you will not move up or get support.
The bonuses per year are small 1-5% for a team lead roll.
Management and opportunities are better working for the umbrella company Bank of America.

    Advice to Management

Utilize the 360 coaching and make sure your managers are actually managing efficiently. Some managers don't need to be in such high positions. Also, if you want to keep talent increase your bonuses.

I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Certifications. 7 and 63. 66 NO LONGER OFFERED! Deep knowledge of 401k plans. Decent pay for entry level job, 3 week vacation and health benefits. Friendly co workers, including supervisors and managers.

    Cons

After certifications you're stuck for a year from your last one. No matter how good you perform there's no room for growth except become a team lead which it is a other trap since you can't take another position for another year (very few stay after becoming team lead) really high turnover. No recognition for best performer, no more Learning after you become a "specialist". You just count the days until your year is up so you can apply for a better job.

    Advice to Management

It's a financial institution. When you ask your team to give you numbers and they do, don't give them ice cream in return. Recognize them with bonuses, raises, extra vacation day. Motivation is highly needed. Get your good employees engaged in activities within dpt so they feel important, other then just a number taking as many calls as possible!

I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Encouraged to move around the company and gain experience in different departments. Series 7 and 66 are available to you even in back office roles where it's not required. Low pressure.

    Cons

Difficult to earn more regardless of performance. Qualified, high performing, motivated employees make the same as the rest. No bonuses until you're at team manager/Sr. specialist level (one rank higher than me). A raise for a promotion is typically only around 3%. Year end raises (instead of a cash bonus) are even less.

    Advice to Management

Pay your winners with the money you save by firing the losers.

    Pros

Consistently expanding. New departments or changed in management allow lots of opportunity for growth and promotions. Environment rewards hard work and initiative.

    Cons

Constant changes in management, as well as, changes to policy and procedure. Can be hard to focus on an initiative when there is a management shift and the focus is changed.

    Advice to Management

Try to maintain more consistency between different sites and shifts in management.
