I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-what pro's the management lies about everything

    Cons

    -compensation
    -no advancement
-all earnings go to someone other than the people doing the work

    Advice to Management

All of you are the lowest grade of human beings alive. You are dishonest, treat people like machines, and encourage fights between team members. Also provide actual training be for you throw your employees to the fire and then blame them for not knowing what to do.

I worked at Merrill Lynch full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company has good name recognition. You never have to explain who they are. Good research available. I'd like to say more, but that's about it.

    Cons

Very little support. Sales Assistants (ie secretaries) rule the office. They can work or not and they know it. Asking them to send correspondence to a client is like asking them to give away their first-born.

    Advice to Management

Stop pushing the product of the week. Too many scattered programs.

I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

have great colleagues , compensation is fair for my position - lots of learing opportunities

    Cons

Depending on your role can sometimes be difficult to move ahead. Not a great work life balance particulary for management- particulary hard for middle managers who are puttng in an a lot of hours but not getting the compensation to match

    Advice to Management

Better work life balance would go a long way in boosting employee morale

    Pros

Training is among the best, if not the best in the industry. Strong brand and technology.

    Cons

Hurdles are almost impossible for someone making a career change. Those joining from another broker dealer firm have a better chance of graduating.

    Advice to Management

Structure two types of hurdles, one for existing advisors and a second for those new to the industry.

I worked at Merrill Lynch full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I think we have the best platform for financial advice and there are big strides being made now with new technology, including handheld devices to further engage clients.

    Cons

For new people starting out in the business it can be challenging to bring in new business with little experience, management could do a better job linking newer advisers to more senior advisers.

    Advice to Management

Help people better understand the opportunity and give more than one suggestion to get in the business rather than just PMD. Give the people interviewing for PMD the statistics of PMD success and other way to grow in the business before entering the sink or swim PMD program. Perhaps letting a PMD applicant become a Client Associate for a few years might be a better way to help them transition on ML-or recommend going to work in a bank role for a few years would help them succeed long term.
