I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits are good, the opportunities to move around and learn new products as well as work towards promotion are definitely supported by the company. It's a case of being flexible and going for what you want.

    Cons

Position locations make it more difficult for someone like me who will not relocate as I love my lifestyle where I live too much to make that change. My choice.

I worked at Merrill Lynch full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Catered lunches were relatively frequent, sometimes we got out two hours early before three-day weekends, and

    Cons

Not much growth opportunity at ML after entry level. Crossing over from the bank into ML, or vice versa, is difficult as well, as many ML employees still view the 2007 ownership change as a hostile takeover. More often than not, management teams are not great at communicating. Get used to feeling like you're less important/valuable than the FAs, and be prepared to adopt that way of thinking as well - unfortunately!

I worked at Merrill Lynch part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The team of Merrill Lynch I was on was comprised of individuals who truly cared about clients, which singlehandedly shaped my view of the industry while in college. So many times you hear the skepticism of advisers and cynicism in the role they perform. Here, they were serious about achieving the best outcome for the client. The quality of conversation around macroeconomic topics, professionalism in work environment, and time spent educating and investing in young employees of the firm was hands down top-notch. It was a formative experience for me as an introduction into the wealth management industry, and I learned more through their experience and conversation than any college class or lecture could teach. So, for that, I do thank them and highly recommend any one looking to pursue a career with Merrill to chose a good team and fully immerse yourself in the experience of learning with an intellectual curiosity. Take in all that it has to offer because this place will make you stronger, and be grateful and look forward to your opportunity to grow here. In the words of a great adviser "Go out there and kill it" -- "Do the right thing"

    Cons

Cannot think of any--Just be mentally prepared to grow and work hard. The harder you work and faster you learn, the more you can do and grow here.

    Pros

Flexible work schedule and if a survivor can survive they can make some pretty good money.

    Cons

Competitive wages and the industry has been changed a lot with the availability of the internet. Either get on a team or die.

    Advice to Management

Sounds like management has identified the problem since almost 90% of their new advisors fail.
