I have been working at Merrimack Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work-life balance, Unlimited vacation policy which could be great Pro depending on your manager.

    Cons

Biased, Prejudiced and sometimes racist handling of issues. Most of the times, your concerns are not deemed important enough to pay any attention.

    Advice to Management

Managment BADLY needs some training to be effective. It's a free for all for some, and very strict for others.

I have been working at Merrimack Pharmaceuticals full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pleasant work environment with friendly and cooperative co-workers. Lots of great social activities. A deep sense of mission.

    Cons

Too many unqualified and/or inexperienced people are occupying supervisory roles because "the price is right". Their incompetence, aggravated by their insecurity, is one of the reasons the company is in a downward spiral with no end in sight.

    Advice to Management

Promoting inexperienced employees into supervisory roles [many of which seem to be taking the company's unlimited vacation time policy a little too literally and don't even bother showing up] , simply because "the price is right" invariably ends up backfiring as their rookie mistakes end up costing much more. All the investors' dollars wasted hosting ski trips, summer outings and lavish catered parties with open bar, just "to boost employee morale" would have been much better invested paying decent salaries to people with experience in the industry that could manage the company better and keep it afloat. There is no better "morale booster" for the employees than seeing their company's stock price go up [instead of sinking to below IPO levels, like MACK did!]

I worked at Merrimack Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice working environment where people are encouraged and supported to cross-functionally work between teams, units and divisions. Lot's of opportunities to learn

    Cons

Absolute no structure and career path defined. Minimal chance to get into leadership positions. Decisions are not communicated clearly and timely. People often work the job of two employees

    Advice to Management

Start to communicate decisions more often to align the company
Stop expecting people will work more because of the nice working environment

    Pros

Friendly people. Noble work done by passionate people. I get the sense that everyone really cares about finding a cure for cancer.

    Cons

Building setup is odd, but I suppose they can't do anything about space right now.

    Advice to Management

Management does a pretty good job.. Employees feel appreciated, but $$ is not up to par..

    Pros

Good co-workers. Nice feeling of being able to talk to anyone of any level, and this is encouraged. Good support internally.

    Cons

Moving people too often and uncoordinated. Culture changed drastically.

    Advice to Management

Open floor plans are not a good idea and do not promote a good environment. Do not move people as often as no one knows where anyone is or what areas are what...

I have been working at Merrimack Pharmaceuticals full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, superb maternity leave policy, flexible work schedule (in practice, not just by claim). Great opportunities for growth, employees are given as much responsibility as they would like so you are able to set your own pace. No restrictions or pressure to stay within the lines of your job title. Positive culture that supports collaboration and rewards ideas and input. Colleagues are open to change and welcome new thinking. Great work-life balance (may depend some on the group or department you are in). Very empowering environment, employees are really listened to. Intense on-boarding program that really supports the current positive culture.

    Cons

Some drama around silly things, like who attends work parties or people being too loud in the break room. Those issues seem to be short lived and not serious.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing! Continue to push for current culture as new people are hired. Don't lose the culture to expansion!

I worked at Merrimack Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Growing fast paced company that has done a lot with very little. Diverse and unique platform. Great vacation policy (5 weeks) if your manager is accommodating.

    Cons

Merrimack prides themselves on their culture. However, it becomes apparent that any potential for career development only occurs if you maneuver your way through the politics and are part of the exclusive elite. Management is inexperienced and not genuine. Many of them have learned as the company has grown and have not been able to utilize experienced staff to their full potential.

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees. Plan for the future (> 3 months), most employees are looking for career development.
