I have been working at Merritt Hawkins full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I have been with Merritt Hawkins for 8 years. I have been a Director in the past and am now in Marketing/Business Development. The training, support, personal, career and financial growth are all unlimited IF you make the decision to take this position seriously and want a CAREER in Healthcare.

    Cons

From a marketing perspective, it will take time to build your territory. It will be a 3 year commitment. However, the good news is, their are PLENTY of examples of Marketers who have been with Merritt Hawkins past the 3 year mark who are doing very well, are making a great income, and are leaders on our floor.

    Advice to Management

I believe Merritt Hawkins Leadership is doing a wonderful job with training and support. Please continue to invest the time and resources that you are and thank you for understanding that it takes time to develop an employee, and a territory.

Great sales training. That's it! Everything else is horrible!

Management does not care about their employees. They lie to you, they treat you like a SLAVE (Honest Truth). They only give you 10 days of PTO which includes sick time. This is a total sweat shop. Your VP will treat you horrible, your SVP has no compassion for its employees and does not even say hello to you when he see's you walking by. If you are planning on asking for a raise, forget about it. They have an old compensation plan that really UNDERPAYS you. I have never worked so hard to make SO LITTLE income. I saw over 40 employees quit within 9 months that i was working there. Many of them were not there more than 5 business days.

No career growth at all. You better wait until a VP dies because you move up.

They are a health care company and they offer the worst health insurance, worst 401k, worst PTO ever, WORST benefits ever.

They lie to you to make you work more, they lie to you to not pay you, they lie to you to forget about taking a family vacation, they life to you to keep you selling.

Forget about work life balance. There is none.

They FINE YOU for being late. I am talking about 3 minutes late.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and PAY THEM BETTER. Don't lie to your employees, respect WORK LIFE BALANCE, Value your employees.

I worked at Merritt Hawkins full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people. They definitely hire charismatic, smart people.

    Cons

Being a recruiter, not so bad because you aren't micromanaged. Being a marketer, old school sales tactics, and micromanagement

    Advice to Management

If its working to churn and burn then keep doing what you are doing. If you decide that you want to retain more marketers you will have to change your work style and that means employing managers that are actually good managers not just good marketers, who also understand what the younger generation is expecting in a job.

    Pros

The healthcare industry is a great one to work in but it is not recession proof. Of all my sales jobs this one taught me how to be an effective consultant to physicians and hospital CEO's on what the current market of recruiting is like for physicians.

    Cons

The hardest job I have ever had. Simply a numbers game. No more. No less. If you hit your lofty goals, you have nothing to worry about, if you fall short of you numbers, watch out, you will be gone.

    100% micro management.

There have been people to lose their jobs in less than 90 days. Do your homework before you accept a job. There is good money to be made with MHA but there are many other jobs out there where you could make just as much without all the micro management. A LOT of Turnover with employees! Nearly 50% of the Atlanta office was turned over in 2008.

    Advice to Management

To ease up on employees. In the tough economy where people are fighting to sell anything they can MHA has raised, let me repeat that, raised everyones monthly goals. How does this make sense?? I would also suggest working on employee retention, of which there is none currently.

Show ALL your employees that THEY matter.
