    Pros

    Good potential to have a clean run city

    Cons

    Top heavy administration without checks and balances on their activities. They do not value their employees. They make alot of unfulfilled promises and treat the employees like their enemies.

    Advice to Management

    Implement accountability to command staff and have an external auditor check into their business practices. There is a lot of activity they are involved with that is left unchecked.

    Pros

    4/10 work week and Health & Wellness Center

    Cons

    Lack of competent leaders. Nepotism is still allowed. Large organization still managed with 1950's philosophy. People not matched to position.

    Advice to Management

    Use Briggs Meyer test to match people to position. Stop bullying and narcissistic management.

    Pros

    Great if you are Mormon or if you are in with favoritism, nepotism, and cronyism. Benefits and policies do not extend to all. But if you receive the full benefits, such as 4x10 and flexible schedule, permitted overtime to complete heavy workloads, and tuition reimbursement (etc...), then it might be a good place to work. A few supervisors and fellow city employees are most excellent but that is not enough to tolerate the worst of the worst supervisors and employees.

    Cons

    Favoritism, nepotism, and cronyism. Rampant corruption, unethical, discriminatory practice and some of these employees should be sitting in prison for the things that they do. If you are working under one of the many tyranny supervisors then your life will be a living hell. If you complain, you absolutely will be retaliated against. Employees are prohibited from organizing a union and do not have anyone to advocate for them.

    Advice to Management

    Clean up the corruption, hire and promote only the best qualified applicants, and audit departments on a routine basis. Verify that policies and benefits are not exclusive and that Mesa's Core Values are consistently applied. Reach out to the public and local business for feedback on employee work performance instead of just relying on supervisors with hidden agendas. Provide true advocacy for fair and equitable treatment and an outlet to report anonymously. HR should visit hiring departments to determine department needs instead of just relying on a piece of paper with key words in the job description. HR should also provide more assistance and resources to applicants. Resources and assistance that is available should be advertised during the application process (i.e. notify applicants that did not meet eligibility to see if additional assistance is needed or offer mock interviews to applicants that are scheduled for an interview). Allow employees to adequately cross-train or job shadow, currently they are allowed a maximum of 3 days which is not enough to prepare them for a career change. Allow employees to participate in internships without risk to their current position. I am aware of some employees that have had their jobs protected for one year while they worked in another position/department and some employees have left and returned to their position & department multiple times. If this is not going to be offered to everyone, then it should not be offered to anyone.

    Pros

    Great lower level employees. Awesome medical insurance. Per-diem is low but it helps because they can give it to you each week.

    Cons

    Overtime is seriously horrible. The upper management are like chickens with their heads cut off, nothing runs smoothly. The pay is almost outright robbery for the work.

    Advice to Management

    Better communication skills is a must.

    Pension was the only reason to work there. 4 day workweek was ok.

    HR management is the worst. Incompetent to the core.

    Pros

    The City benefits are terrific, and your positions are protected much more than a normal company.

    Cons

    Employees that do not feel they need to excel at their jobs, hiring freeze within the City for 5+ years so no raises for anyone, bureaucratic paperwork, and most importantly extremely poor high-level management.
    The Executive Director only believes in BEING right, instead of DOING what's right. No creativity, collaboration, or knowledge of how to communicate between departments about goals, productivity or teamwork.

    Advice to Management

    That list is too long and they wouldn't believe it anyway.
