I have been working at Mesquite ISD part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you love kids then it should be fun for you. Get to eat in the teachers lounge when they have free lunch. Some teachers or principals might call you back to work for a better position. If you have a bachelors degree in any field they will pay you more. You can go in any day you want!!

    Cons

Pay is okay if you work a lot of days. Some teachers do appreciate subs when they see you in the halls, some don’t want to help. Some will look at subs funny in the teachers lounge, especially if you look young!

    Advice to Management

Give better reward to substitute who’s been working lots of days instead of food coupons!

I worked at Mesquite ISD full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

All holidays off, spring and summer vacations, winter break, weekends off, set schedule, $10 health clinic for basic exams, AETNA health insurance and optional dental, close commute for locals, seeing happy faces from the kids.

    Cons

Constant workplace hostility in the kitchen I worked at and friend's had bad times at two other locations as well. Manager picked favorites and let bullying occur between workers and did nothing to correct it and got mad at people for being sick with a note. Not enough hours/pay so made less than $800 a month after taxes/teachers retirement/insurance/etc.

    Advice to Management

Don't play favorites, take complaints seriously, treat workers like humans, if you see a subordinate struggling because of the work load don't tell them "pick up the pace you are just slow", don't tolerate gossip at work.
