I have been working at Mesquite ISD full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Wonderful school district. Most teachers work hard and care. Administration is generally hard working and involved. The superintendent is going in the right direction.

    Cons

Normal issues for Texas teachers: disappointing pay, health insurance is not manageable for a family (thanks State of Texas), some students are not engaged (not atypical for a district this size)

    Advice to Management

Really, the State of Texas really needs to fix the funding of education in Texas. Internally, Mesquite ISD is really doing right by both students and teachers.

    Pros

Financially sound, employee health clinic, fair pay, great coworkers at times. Working with the kids is a great experience.

    Cons

Certain principals are promoted more for how they look or how they brown nose. They take over campuses with an agenda and eliminate anyone who doesn't fit that agenda, regardless of how good of an employee that person is.

    Advice to Management

There is a reason why some campuses have massive turnover. Take a look at who you are hiring, not their physical assets but their character. Hurting people is not a way to run a district.

I worked at Mesquite ISD (Less than a year)

    Pros

I was given the opportunity to work for the Library Services department, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. My supervisors and coworkers were encouraging and resourceful, and I was given the opportunity to work on multiple campuses, giving me a uniquely diverse experience.

    Cons

I wish there had been a full-time position open in the department, they wanted me to stay, but I had to move on to a permanent full-time position. They provided strong recommendations, sealing my chances of getting the job that I now work at!

    Advice to Management

Keep caring for your staff and faculty with the same level of appreciation as you have been, they're outstanding people with strong work ethics.

I worked at Mesquite ISD (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Focus on educational technology, competitive pay, close to several neighboring cities, excellent professional development program, master's pay

    Cons

MISD does not always support the retention of loyal, veteran professional educators. Some employees are targeted and systematically demeaned and forced out due to age, race, salary level and contract type. No your rights if you work here.

    Advice to Management

Fire. Replace. Retire. Get rid of Lanny Frasier. Listen to the staff feedback in regards to poor school administrators. Do not allow an inadequate, administrator to falsely target and force out an effective, certified, veteran teacher in order to hire an unqualified individual because there's a meed for more minority employees.
