I worked at Messer Construction full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Low-mid level performers won't have to worry about losing their jobs regardless of how the economy is doing (managers, not craft). ESOP is a good retirement account, IF you plan to work here for 40+ years, IF the government doesn't take it away, and IF the company isn't bought out.

    Cons

If your ambitious in your career path...look elsewhere. The senior level managers are all 40-50's age and will do anything to make themselves seem better than everyone else. Oh an the EXPECTED work hours are 10 hours a day, 6 days a week...again that's EXPECTED . So kiss your home life goodbye.

    Advice to Management

Calling yourself "best in class" by focusing on only the data that you want to and ignoring everything else does not equate to success.

I have been working at Messer Construction full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Lots of opportunities for advancement - Dedicated to workplace safety from top all the way down - Interesting and complex projects to work on

    Cons

    - Can feel lost in the "system." Sometimes I felt like company was too large and the ability for upper management to know whats going on in everybody's life was seriously hindered - Encourages everybody take personality tests but doesn't really do anything to help people with conflicting personalities work well together. - Work/life balance was way off. Sometimes I was working 10+ hours on site with a 1+ hour commute each way. No compensation considered for extended commute.

    Advice to Management

    - Get both sides to story and don't just rely on your managers to tell you whats going on on-site.
