    Pros

-They are trying to globalize, and change antiquated practices
-They are trying to innovate, go digital and focus on the customer
-They are trying to rapidly improve to become best in class
-They have decent pay and a stable environment

    Cons

-They are still largely failing at the things they are trying
    -The Japanese-foreigner divide still exists
-Constant upheaval, sluggish acceptance of change, and an unclear company culture erode at all the initiatives the company is taking

    Advice to Management

    -Make better hiring decisions
-Think about the character of leadership, not the internal company reputation
-Think about the long term practicality of short term fixes and initiatives
-Don't pretend the Japan v global problem doesn't exist, and try to empower the people at the intersection

I worked at MetLife Alico full-time

    Pros

I was a former employee for Operations department - USA based MNC company, Good salary, flexible timings, Parties in 5 star hotels in Dubai.

    Cons

They don't care about talented and hard working employees. Managers insult and humilate like anything. Bias discrimination. Extreme level of dirty politics that you will have sleepless nights. They treat you like a slave. Managers can break the code of conduct and drag you from cafeteria. The managers are from 1990's in this company and hence the strategies are very old. Every now and managers threaten to terminate you. If you love your life and yourself then don't join this company.

    Advice to Management

You need leaders and not bosses to run this company. The work atmosphere should be approachable. Hire leaders from current generation and terminate the ones there from 1990. Good salary and brand are not the only thing employees look for. Employees should be treated and respected well.

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Tokyo (Japan)
    Positive Outlook

I have been working at MetLife Alico full-time

    Pros

Employees are friendly, talented and professional. The client really does come first. After the Great East Japan Earthquake, payouts were made to policyholders despite clauses in the insurance contracts exempting the company from liability due to natural disasters.

    Cons

Management is too Japanese. Employees are evaluated on whether or not they work long hours, and women are automatically disqualified from management positions when they have spouses and/or children because they "cannot do the overtime". (In which automatic overtime means working full time to a manager.) Also, salaries are too low, but are comparable in Japan. Attendance at drinking parties, as well as the consumption of alcohol, are required in order to get a good review.

    Advice to Management

Kick out the middle managers, and replace with truly international managers. Even the Japanese managers with international experience are "Japanese". Set up new employee evaluation metrics that are merit-based.
